Guest guest
Hello all, A " Jägerhut-Patella " is a form of patella dysplasia, where the medial part of the trochlea of femur is (practically) absent, and the patella is formed accordingly (supposedly like a 'huntsman's hat', well, a German one;). Could anyone provide me with some 'official' term for this kind of patella dysplasia, preferably in Latin and/or English and/or Dutch? Kind regards & many thanks in advance, Albert
Guest guest
Hello Albert, The kneecap certainly seems to be a Germanic specialist field! Wiberg is your man - he is responsible for a classification of patellar " shapes " . (There is also a doctor Baumgartl with his own classification.) I found this American article, which refers to the hunter's cap: http://www.kneehippain.com/patient/pain/abnormalities.html " When viewed in axial cross-section, the medial bony facet can be excessively small, there may be no separate medial and lateral bony facet, the patella may look like a hunter's cap (as described by Wiberg) or a pebble - to name but a few abnormalities. " Apart from that, I have found plenty of references to patellar or femoral trochlear dysplasia, but there is nothing particularly specific about abnormal patellar shapes. Good luck!
