Guest guest
DO you have an MS centre close by, some HBOT would help maybe? Mx My mum fell off a chair while putting up curtains and has a very deep gouge out of the back of her heel, four weeks on antibiotics and still no sign of this wound healing. She is having to go the GP and have it cleaned and re-dressed twice a week. She is not in a great place at the moment with the worry over my dad and has lost a stone in weight over the last month so she is obviously pretty low. Any suggestions anyone? Guest guest
hydrogen peroxide.. dilute it one part to one part water.. pour it over the wound and let it fizz.. If there is infection it will fizz white... once it stops fizzing rinse off with water and then cover with a dressing. This is the best thing I know of.. second best is to put manuka honey on the wound.. as this is both anti viral and anti bacterial...The hydrogen peroxide liquid is available from most independent pharmacies... Best WishesTracey Hi all - it never rains but it pours scenario going on lately!!!! Guest guest
Have they checked she is not diabetic? Diabetes slows wound healing. She may in any case have poor circulation in the legs - this can be improved with compression stockings. Guest guest
Marina can you get hold of some low level (cold) laser light? Some places have them for hire, also some health clinics/osteopaths etc use them, maybe you could hire one out. I have a cheap version at home and it does wonders for wound healing. btw have they tried putting pads/bandages with silver dressing - silver helps healing (have you read 'The Body Electric' btw, fab read and explains how/why). Those are very expensive but can be bought or rx through NHS. Also there are manuka honey wound dressing pads - I saw a nurse use them at my GP's, so must be available through NHS. nx > > > > > > Hi all - it never rains but it pours scenario going on lately!!!! > > > > > > My mum fell off a chair while putting up curtains and has a very deep > > gouge > > > out of the back of her heel, four weeks on antibiotics and still no sign > > of > > > this wound healing. Guest guest
As already said I would definitely look at Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy if at all possible. Wound healing is one of the conditions that benefits hugely from HBOT. My mum also has very swollen ankles also one leg. It has been bad for over a year since she had a hip operation. She has tried everything from the GP, water tablets, stockings etc then alternative things like cycling on pedals on a stand in the lounge! acupuncture, a machine that performs reflexology. She is still having problems walking, but is not diabetic thankfully. She has found some improvement from wearing support knee high socks from M & S which were recommended to her by a nurse. Also we have been doing some LDM (lymphatic drainage massage) which we saw on youtube. This seems to be helping with the swelling. Hope things improve for your Mum. Guest guest
Dear MarinaThe GP does NOT have to consent to the treatment, they simply have to sign to say that they are aware your Mum is having the treatment.. Guest guest
Hi MarinaBefore you go with her, contact the HBOT Trust and check what the current legal status is.. They told me last year that Doctors do not decide they simply sign to acknowledge awareness. Will you Mum do the Hydrogen Peroxide... just that this is high concentration oxygen and will hit the wound really quick. I sliced the top quarter off my finger last year.. and it got infected.. two days of using Hydrogen peroxide and it not only cleared the infection but it also healed so beautifully that I do not have a scar.. and my skin scars very easily. Also Mandi sells oxysilver which is a good healer too. Best WishesTracey Hi Tracey - think I need to go along with her to her next appointment and tell them how it is. Guest guest
Hi MarinaThe thing which is good with hydrogen peroxide is the visual effects.. Quite spectacular.. because if it goes on healthy skin it may sting and no more.. However if it hits infected skin it fizzes and creates a lot of white froth.. So it is excellent to measure the extent of the infection. A bit like a party trick.. It does need rinsing off though .. I love the stuff... It was a tip I was given by a podiatrist several years ago when my son had bad ingrown and infected toe nails and several courses of antibiotics did nothing.. The hydrogen peroxide had problem sorted in a few days. Tracey told her i am coming over tomorrow whether she likes it or not, it is very painful. Guest guest
Marina, You said, I think, that the GP's surgery is dealing with this. Do you think it may be an idea to raise the question with the doctor whether the wound might need to be probed and cleaned out surgically at the hospital and then have a drain put in? Have they cultured the organisms in the pus to see exactly what the infective agent is? Guest guest
Marina, Story of my life for the last 10 years. I finally went down to the sea and screamed for a long time into the waves. You can cry on my shoulder for sure...It's a real bummer. Your mum is scared and now that the chips are down, she is travelling the road which is most comfortable for her, going the conservative route. She is not where you are at. But let's see...THERE IS ONE WAY TO SKIN A CAT....hmm what about just keeping your peace for a while BUT how about sneaking some Beta-Glucans into her foods when she's not noticing and some Trienza......This is what I used to do. (Full on confrontation doesn't work.) In any case, it's foodstuff in the end and nothing toxic so you shouldn't have a bad conscience about it.x Marina, You said, I think, that the GP's surgery is dealing with this. Do you think it may be an idea to raise the question with the doctor whether the wound might need to be probed and cleaned out surgically at the hospital and then have a drain put in? Have they cultured the organisms in the pus to see exactly what the infective agent is? Guest guest
, want to scream now but I am in an open plan office, enough with worrying about Dad let alone this now. Yep you are right she is scared - she has lost a stone in a month from not eating with all the stress and has convinced herself she has cancer too. If I give her stuff to take orally I think this will work as she is just scared of me just touching the wound itself. Marina x Marina, Story of my life for the last 10 years. Guest guest
It is so difficult. My beloved aunt, who could have benefitted enormously from HBOT (my parents were convinced and were going to drive her everyday) refused because her doctors told her it would 'explode her lungs'. We couldn't convince her. Can you bargain with her? Something like, we'll try their way for another 3 days, and then, given the fact that nothing they do for you is working, we'll try my way for 72 hours? Some of the things that have been suggested would probably start working that quickly (thinking the silver might be a good starting poitn). Guest guest
If she has poor circulation, then it's possibly a venous ulcer. She may not necessarily be diabetic. Either way, if there is pus present, then it's infected and won't heal. You need to have the wound cleaned, sterilised and then treated. Standard therapy is just brutal - debride the wound, cover and hope. I'm not a fan. Lots of new stuff available now - top of the range is probably collagen based grafts, but they're horrendously expensive and not widely available. Negative pressure wound therapy is another option. Not sure what the NHS offer on their limited budgets. She needs specialist intervention. Go shout and your GP and get a referral to a specialist. Untreated, non-healing ulcers can lead to amputation. Especially if they get seriously infected. Don't want to scare you, but you need to act on this. Guest guest
Thanks Liam - this is exactly what I have been trying to explain to her without scaring the life out of her, she is back there again today at 4pm and will be trying to leave work and meet her there - not going to tell her I am coming though! Fingers crossed. Marina x If she has poor circulation, then it's possibly a venous ulcer. She may not necessarily be diabetic. Either way, if there is pus present, then it's infected and won't heal.
