Guest guest
We have done several routine hematology blood tests at the local hospital with my son over the past year since he developed autism. Several elements keep going up and are out of the reference range. I only have these results because I made several requests to get them. None of the doctors who ordered the tests have shown any concerns that these values are outside the reference range. WBC has a reference range of 5.5 to 15.5 A year ago, 2 months after my son's regression, his value ws 16.2. Subsequent scores kept increasing. His value in February was 17. Should I be concerned? Should I do something about this? Does this mean that he is always fighting something? Could it be Candida? Could it be indicative of autoimmune problems? I was told that most people do not have a WBC above 10 and it goes up when they are sick. My son does not get sick often. Any advice? Other values that are consistently increasing are: Lymphs increased from 9.49 to 10.5 with a ref.range of 8-10 Basos increased from 0.21 to 0.36 with a ref. range of 0-0.1 What are lymphs and basos anyways? I should note that my son's autism symptoms have also become worse over the past year despite a lot of therapy, strict diets, and lots of biomedical interventions. We have tested my son for HHV6, strep, CMV, EBV at the local hospital and they were all negative. He has high Arabinose on the OAT. We have not checked his titers but he regressed after his last DPTPHib. If anyone has any ideas on this I would tuly appreciate it. Thanks, Hope
Guest guest
It does sound like he is probably fighting viruses. ANd if his immune system is getting weaker, the gut bacteria thing can come into play too. Is he on any type of viral meds? Even if he does not show high titers (my son did not), an antiviral supplement may help him. I am no expert, or doc. Hopefully Dr. J will have something to say about him. Wish I could be more help White Blood Cell Count etc. keep going up. Guest guest
These exact counts are typical with cronic bowel disorders such as crohns/colitis/IBD. Check his temp a couple of times a day and see if he is also running a low grad fever. This is all cronic inflammation. (and we all know the kids guts are a mess!!) Nothing to panic about.... I have crohn's and even when I'm doing REALLY well, my WBC count, as well as the others are high. Guest guest
Lymphocytes and basophils are all part of the " white cell family,. " along with eosinophils and monocytes. These results are not terribly unusual in our population, and your child as many others is probably fighting a chronic gut infection/inflammation. I like Lauricidin, as it is an anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial agent all at once. I might also suggest a thyroid panel on your child if you haven't done that. But my most important general advice: Get your child on a restricted diet religiously, as gut inflammation will not subside as long as his sensitive gut is being given foods that he is reactive to, and treat him for yeast and clostridia if tests show they are present. Dr. JM. White Blood Cell Count etc. keep going up. Guest guest
Most of our kids are dealing with an ongoing gut inflammation, and erratic and moderately elevated white counts are common. You must treat the yeast adequately, avoid sugar, and give mucho probiotics. Dr. JM White Blood Cell Count etc. keep going up.
