Hello again from Sydney. Just a couple of final queries from this report I am

working on.

1. " Leider gibt es bisher keine zuverlässig wirksame Behandlungsmethode bei der

Erkrankung, die eine nicht unerhebliche Chronifizierungstendenz zeigt " .

I'm not sure of precisely what this is saying. Does 'Chronifizierungstendenz'

mean a 'tendency towards chronic symptoms'?

Surely a treament method wouldn't cause chronic symptoms. The text goes on to

explain how 15-25% of PTSD patients develop a persistent chronic disorder.

Then the text says:

2. 'Der bisherige Krankheitsverlauf ist also nicht untypisch für die bei der

Patientin vorliegende Erkrankung...'

Is 'Krankheitsverlauf' here 'the previous history of the illness in general' ?

Thanking you

Shane London

Thanks again for replying, Adrienne

Re Chronifizierungstendenz

Doesn't the (German) text imply that the treatment methods cause the illness to

tend to become chronic or am I reading that wrongly?

regards,

Shane

RE: Ger>Eng: Chronifizierungstendenz / Krankheitsverlauf

Hi Shane,

Just got back to the office!

1. " Leider gibt es bisher keine zuverlässig wirksame Behandlungsmethode

bei der Erkrankung, die eine nicht unerhebliche Chronifizierungstendenz

zeigt " .

. . . shows a not unsubstantial (a better expression could certainly be

found for this such as important, substantial, etc.) tendency towards

becoming chronic.

This should make sense in the given context.

Then the text says:

2. 'Der bisherige Krankheitsverlauf ist also nicht untypisch für die

bei der Patientin vorliegende Erkrankung...'

Is 'Krankheitsverlauf' here 'the previous history of the illness in

general' ?

No. this is the " course or progress of the disease / illness

AW: Ger>Eng: Chronifizierungstendenz / Krankheitsverlauf

Hi Shane,

No, the German text simply says that the ILLNESS has a tendency to become

chronic.

No, I think you're reading it wrong. The illness has a tendency to

become chronic. I don't think it has anything to do with the treatment

at all.

No, Shane. The disease itself has a tendency to become chronic.

Adrienne is right:

. . . shows a substantial tendency towards becoming chronic.

and 'Krankheitsverlauf' is 'course of the disease'
