Guest guest
I believe if you research on the internet you will find that many manufacturers add a thin oil film to their stainless to keep from having marks form on them from handling and to keep sheet stainless easily separable and unmarked from surface to surface contact. This is true for galvanized sheet steel also. Stainless is easily marked by Hands and requires buffing and cleaning to get hand prints off, the thin film of oil or polymer will prevent this. It also is rubbed on by installers to make it appear bright and clean, I believe as someone has already suggested.
