I forget what surgery your mom had, but rather than ted hose she should be

wearing sequential compression leggings whenever she is in bed to prevent clots.

Keep in mind when they are trying to rule out a clot, she should not wear it

on that leg till it is ruled out. Are they doing coagulation labs on her?

Well, I just got off the phone with the cardiologist. They want to do

another stat ultrasound, now on the other leg to rule out DVT. Again!

They're doing it first thing in the morning.

I've read that DVT can cause personality changes, and my mom does have

pain and redness in the non surgical leg as well. I feel like she's

just not getting the best follow up care. Phone consultations, but

little in person. The cardiologist's office is going to see her,

though, once her rehab is over. I feel like something is being missed,

and I hope they find it. I told her I think she should go see her

internist if the ultrasound is negative, just to be safe. I'd like one

more doctor actually LOOKING at her.

It just never ends. Well, prayers are being solicited one more time.

Sorry to hear that, Carol. I would ask one of the doctors or nurses

about the TED hose.

Carol,

When I wore teds after surgeries, I had to wear them 24 hours a day. I was

not allowed to take them off at night. I agree with , this is question

for her doctor.

As far as personality differences, I was told that I went through similar

experiences. I get depressed after surgery. I'm not sure if it's the pain

or the pain meds, but I believe it is a combination of both. Since your mom

is having anxiety with this DVT, it could be causing these personality

changes. Just remember that we take things out on those that are closest to

us. You are very close to your mom, so you will be the one she takes her

frustrations out on. I hope she returns to her normal self soon.

Carol- Have her ask her Doc about Ted hose at night. I have had a DVT and 2

PEs - they kept stockings on initially most of the time except for bathing.

Hugs,

Hi Cary,

No, they've decided that's not the problem, once again. They told her

not to wear them in bed, for some reason. In spite of the notoriety of

her ortho, I sometimes wonder if she's getting adequate care. Thanks

for the advice.

Love and hugs,

Carol

Thanks, . They're sticking with their plan for the time being.

They decided not to test her other leg, but hopefully the diuretic will

help the swelling die down. I'm sorry you had to go through the DVT and

PE's. It does make me feel good to know someone who survived them,

though. Some of the things I've read are pretty scary.

Love and hugs,

Carol

Hi Carol,

I hope today brings better things for you and your mom. I'll keep you

in my prayers. I think the muscle relaxer is helping a bit but I

still get a burning sensation if my head stays in a fixed position.

My right leg also starts to feel numb after the burning starts. I am

trying to be creative and print stuff out and read it instead of

staring at my monitor and other things like that. It helps somewhat.

Hopefully a quick diagnosis will be forthcoming (for a change!!!).

That would be so nice.

Know I love and am thinking of you.

Thanks, Alan, for your thoughts and prayers. Know that my love and

prayers are with you that you find a quick resolution to this. If the

Skelaxin doesn't work, maybe you could ask your Dr. for a different

muscle relaxer when you go in. Skelaxin works for me most of the time,

but I have Soma for the days when it doesn't. It's just a little bit

stronger, but it's not an everyday med because it causes some

drowsiness. Right now that would probably be a welcome thing for you,

I'm guessing.

Your idea about printing things out is very creative, btw!

Love you,

Carol

Thank you so much Carol. The Skelaxin works okay but I still need to

make sure my head doesn't stay " fixed " for too long. It's so weird

because me right leg starts to feel numb when the neck burning

starts. Geeze, it's always something...;)

I hope that you are having a good Friday and that you have a

wonderful pain free weekend. Know my love, thoughts and prayers

continue.

Love,
