Hi all.

I am relatively new to the group. I sent an introduction but am not

sure if I ever saw it posted. I try to keep up with the e-mails as

best as I can but don't have a chance to read them all.

I would like to start making Kefir and have a couple questions.

I live in Arlington, WA which is about 50 minutes north of Seattle.

I have been unable to find local sources for raw milk. I noticed

that Dr. Mercola is selling raw milk on his web site. I am not

really a milk drinker so I thought making Kefir would be a good place

to start. My dilemma with buying milk through Dr. Mercola's web site

is that for the expense I wouldn't want it to go to waste and since I

would only be making kefir to start it may be too much. Does anyone

have any other ideas of where I can obtain raw milk?

I also wanted to ask if the kefir recipe in Nourishing Traditions is

what others on the list typically use? This has probably been

addressed in the past, maybe in the archives?

Thanks for your help in advance. It is nice to read about people so

willing to help each other!

Vicki,

I do not rinse my grains as she recommends. Check out this site for more

(much much more)...

You can make kefir with pasteurized milk, many people do.

I like to think that kefirizing it brings life back into it.

You might like to try a batch or two before you shell out for the high end milk.

Vicki,

Check www.realmilk.com and look at the local chapters for WA. They can

help you find raw milk sources.

Thank you and Blane for the web sites. I will be sure to check

them out. And Bruce, that is a good idea to make some with

pasteurized milk first. I saw a post from about a family in

Sequim that wants to possibly start distributing raw milk. Hopefully

they will be able to get some to a nearby co-op! Wouldn't that be a

blessing!

Thanks again to you all and God Bless,
