I live in Clive, IA (suburb of Des Moines) and get the national MS mailings and that's about it. I've talked to people from support groups but that's not really my thing.

Any advice or help you can give me would be great!

TJ

TJ,

This is really a natural healing group more than anything else, so I don't think you'll get too much advice on medications here, except maybe the ABC drugs.

I have experienced great improvement in my MS through diet and supplements.

I am Primary Progressive and was going downhill until the spring of 2,000.

I'd been on the Best Bet Diet for about 4 years when the improvement came.

This improvement has been greater than anything I could have expected from any drug. Along with that, it's my belief that most people with MS have Leaky Gut (intestinal permeability), which some even think could be a cause of MS. When the intestinal membrane breaks down, it allows tiny food particles to get into the blood stream where they can set off the autoimmune response and could lead to autoimmune disease. I believe it was one of my problems.

If you are interested in pursuing diet etc. to treat your MS, there are many of us who can send you information and links to help you get started.

i don't even do this and still had the results gwen

Gwen,

Then you are confirmation of what I've thought for a long time. I DO spend that much on supplements, but have felt it's probably not necessary. MacDougall certainly didn't do that and neither did Swank's patients. I guess it probably depends upon what a person's particular body deficiencies, allergies etc. are. I do know that if you have leaky gut, you will need some supplementation to get over it, since it prevents the body from absorbing nutrients well. And I do think at least minimal supplementation is advisable, but once I think I've got the leaky gut situation completely under control, I am thinking of stream lining the supplementation I do.

Hello Jock,

You're right on track with that message that you had posted. I felt like you

were talking for a second. You have no idea what inspiration you provided me

in speaking to TJ. Currently I'm looking for work and believe me the journey

of finding work is a long one. Meanwhile, I'm going through a relapse, but

it's nothing too severe. Even though it's very frustrating, I try to to take

it in stride and not let it get the best of me.

I have printed and placed your posting in my favorites places. I will read

it whenever I happened to feel down and to remind myself that things will get

better. I know that I am not alone. Thanks Jock

carol,

i believe i had this too and i believe that has resolved itself with time. remember i was on the zone diet for years,

I know rani know the author of neanderthin but have you read that book?

Maybe I am wrong in not taking all the supplements but I just don't think they make a difference in me.

But u r right everyone is different.

Which supplements and how do you know whether you have a leaky gut?

Actually, The Zone was the first diet I went on to address my MS. He has a chapter in the first book, Enter the Zone, about why this diet helps MS specifically and auto-immune disorders in general. I haven't read Ray Audette's latest version of Neanderthin, but read most (not all) of his original book.

One of the ways "everyone is different" is in allergies and intolerances.

Until we did an NAET treatment on calcium, I could take calcium till it was coming out of my ears, but I wasn't assimilating it, it was just spilling over. Same with B vitamins. Same with magnesium. BUT I never had a problem with potassium.

Taking all this calcium and eating foods high in calcium, and yet I developed Raynaud's. Which cleared up within a weak of treating the calcium allergy.

And THEN I find out from the doctor that the treatment for Raynaud's is... calcium IV!

No wonder I'm giving up on allopathic medicine!

Allergies and intolerances can show up in the damnedest ways. It's not all hives and itches, believe me. And most often, the source of a deficiency seems to be an intolerance and when that's the case, the supplements won't help.

Wow, Rani, that's a wonderful improvement! I remember when you had the complaint - we were talking about it, and I was wondering if maybe I had the same problem, because of the way our feet change color all the time. Mine have been better, but I'm not sure why.

Read Ashton Embry's

essay at http://grainfungus.tripod.com about wheat, dairy and diet. I am

working with him on the sidelines as his curiosity has been piqued as well

to explore the possibilities of grainfungus being a cause.

Jeff,

That is great news! I love to see he's getting involved in it, especially since I'm on his Best Bet Diet. I can sure see there is a lot of credance there, especially since the area where I live is one of the largest grain growing areas in the U.S. and the prevalence of MS is the highest here in the U.S.
