Guest guest
Come one, come all to our RA-Support Convention! But first, help us decide where it should be held, LOL. _____ I'll think about my ideas for Florida, and will follow up with a preliminary outline later today or tomorrow. Anyone else who has location or activity ideas, please let us know!!! I'd enjoy going somewhere else even more than having it here. I'd love to go to NYC, but the hotel rooms are really pricey. I think there is one nice hotel where the rooms are about $120, and that's only $60 if we share rooms. There's so much we could do there, and we wouldn't have to worry about renting cars because we could rely on taxi's and public transportation. And tickets to one of the three airports (LaGuardia, JFK, or Newark) are usually dirt cheap. Just a thought. Chicago is still high on my list, too, and the transportation advantages are similar. Or we could get exotic and go to Puerto Rico or something. That just drives the price up that much more, though. Another thought is going to Portland, by Tess, if she wants us. I've always wanted to go there. The biggest downside of Florida is that the summer is miserably hot. Fall is nice, though. Ideas, people!!! Love to all, Carol Re: [ ]Florida Fun -Dates? Carol, maybe we should put out a post with something like " RA-Support convention ideas " in the subject line so that people who haven't caught this " Florida Fun " thread would see it and add their input? Maybe there are other hotspots of members that we are overlooking? I don't have a problem with Florida - it's fine with me. Lots of good reasons to go there. You could list what your idea of the gathering might be (cities in FL, duration, activities, etc.). That's sweet of you and Stan to offer to have a barbeque, but I see the Stress-O-Meter going wild for you with that one. What if it turns out to be 50 people? Guest guest
Portland would be a great place also. I love the Pacific Northwest and I think anyone who has never been there would also. How about San Diego in the Mix? Climates great..........anythime. Nah....I wouldn't get to travel and I dearly love to travel. Like the song though......... " ...don't get around much anymore.. " Traveling used to be a major thing in my life years ago. Just toos some clothes and the kids in the car and we would take off for parts unknown. We made many a camping trip clear across the US, just the three of us. Have always hped to take Richie on some of those trips. Maybe, one trip a year now, if I'm lucky and that takes planning. Keep the ideas coming, Carol. I'm game for just about anything. Would love to meet everyone. Take Care. Love and prayers,,,,,,,,,Jan Carol <carol@...> wrote: Come one, come all to our RA-Support Convention! But first, help us decide where it should be held, LOL. Guest guest
My vision of a RA-Support convention would be to accomplish three things: 1) talk and get to know one another 2) talk and get to know one another 3) talk and get to know one another When I met a a couple of years ago, it was fantastic! Way too short. During dinner in Atlantic City, I talked so much I could barely eat (poor a!). I really could not have cared where we were, as long as we got to spend time exchanging ideas and learning about each other. a learned that I have a very big mouth. I'm in favor of trying to keep expenses down and meeting in a place that wouldn't be hard on those of us who are less mobile than others. For me, staying put in one place would be fine. Maybe we could choose a location that would allow those who feel the need to sightsee and wander to do so, but also accommodate those who would rather not venture out. For many people here, riding in a car for a couple of hours or catching taxis might be uncomfortable and add stress. Having been to New York many times, I'd say it's really fun and exciting, but would not be the best location for a group like ours. So expensive, so congested. Plenty to do and see, but that would distract me from my three goals, LOL! Guest guest
I think you are so right, . All three points are well taken and one of my main goals in wanting to meet everyone. New York City would be out for me also. I was there in my younger, more heyday years and it wore me out then......and I was healthy. I still like to have some control over getting places and that usually is by being in a car if I want to branch out. New York cabbies are famous for taking advantage of tourists and one did of me those many years ago. Besides there is no speaking up to them or they will leave you in the middle of nowhere. I've also flown into NYC area airports and it's not an easy thing to handle if you have any disabling factors. By putting everything out here in postings, I'm sure everything will be ironed out so everyone will be taken care of......... Carol is doing a marvelous job of getting the ball rolling; Lets make sure we don't let it die and make our plans to be able to see as many as we can face to face. I would sure be disapointed if we couldn't get together. Guest guest
Hi , You make a good point. When Florida was mentioned, I just assumed people wanted to see the sights. But the best bet would be someplace inexpensive that we can have the option to go off and sightsee as we are able. As I typed my tentative itinerary, I only had two mornings that would be free. Of course, the meals were and first night's meet and greet were my idea of getting to know each other. Plus, we're getting to know each other when we're active or inactive. But we really don't need anything that will put us in a flare for the next month. For me, every trip I take seems to do that, so you can see I tend to overdo the activities. Mainly because I figure I might not be able to later. Love, Carol Re: [ ] ~~~~~~~~RA-Support CONVENTION !!!~~~~~~~~~~~~ My vision of a RA-Support convention would be to accomplish three things: 1) talk and get to know one another 2) talk and get to know one another 3) talk and get to know one another When I met a a couple of years ago, it was fantastic! Guest guest
Great visions . But I thought it was ME that did all the talking LOL! Our meeting was very memorable and it was nice to learn about each other. found out what a snail I am LOL! These days my walking is even slower, but at least I am still walking. I agree with you about NYC. Way to big and not very intimate for us to get to know each other. a > My vision of a RA-Support convention would be to accomplish three > things: > > 1) talk and get to know one another > 2) talk and get to know one another > 3) talk and get to know one another > > When I met a a couple of years ago, it was fantastic! Guest guest
Now you're talking Heidi! I'd love to come there via a CRUISE SHIP!!!! Guest guest
You're no snail, a! Besides, it wouldn't matter if you were. I was definitely the hog in the conversation, but you were still able to impress me with your engagingly direct, original thinking. I believe we talked about seven hours straight.
