Re: Valtrex and Gains/How long?

The question of how long to keep a child on Valtrex is something we'll need to

learn about

as we go.

I kept Ethan on Valtrex for as long as I was seeing consistent gains. In the

meantime, I

had observed several people who took their children off Valtrex after a month or

two and

they regressed.

Ethan was on Valtrex for 9 months. He seemed to have plateaued and I took him

off of

everything and retested him. By the time his test results came back he had

already started

to improve... so I kept him off of everything since then - except the diet and a

couple of

vitamins he needed based on new OATS test. That was about a year ago and he's

doing

great. That's one successful and sustained recovery after coming off Valtrex

that we have

documented and they'll be others as time goes on. Most people in this group

have no

more than a 70 day history on Valtrex since that's when the group started.

It seems to me that the worse the child is impaired the longer they may need to

be on

Valtrex, but there is certainly evidence that it does not have to be a life-long

thing, at least

in portion of the children. Time will tell.
