Wow! That actually looks " doable. " I thought a triathlon would be much higher

endurance, like a 2 mile swim, followed by a 50 mile bike ride and a 12 mile

run... the 1/2, 12 and 3 are within my grasp, I think.

If I participated, I think the " run " would have to be a " walk. " I'm still

recovering from the last time I tried to do high impact exercises.

Yes Rose.. I would have to walk 3 miles.. not sure how much running I can do but I am able to do more impact stuff. I think if I get my weight below 170 to 160-150 (right now 182).. I could maybe run..I am going to really work on strength and diet.. doing a detox tomorrow and thurs to get myself back into healthy eatingTo:

Judy it's totally okay to walk it, don't injure your knees!  In hindsight I'm so glad I walked part of the Valentine Run to save my knees for the Shamrock Run, which was more important to me. You've got the biking and swimming down, and you can always POWER WALK.  It's not like you'd be walking a shopping mall stroll or anything..

you wanna hear something funny.... I never learned how to ride a bike. :( No one ever taught me growing up and I didn't even have a bike to try. I've made sure that my girls know how to ride a bike. My husband rides his bike with the girls all the time when the weather is good. Maybe that will be my next goal! lol

Wow, there's an event right near me! I don't own a bike though and my joints don't like running so I won't be joining in though part of me would really love the challenge of training for it and finishing it. I will pass this info along to WW members though as some who are already working out might see it as a great goal to go for. Hi Teena,

Funny you should mention biking, my DD just doesn't want to learn - we have a bike for her, but getting her on it is like pulling teeth. I really do want her to learn though as I have fond memories of riding as a kid and young adult.I never mastered swimming myself partially b/c I'm not all that fond of water and partially b/c I just never had lessons or anyone to teach me! I like playing around in the water (4 to 5 feet) but I am not a big fan of sticking my face in it! I did want my DD to learn to swim, so we have been doing lessons religiously since Kindergarten. She isn't great at it, and apparently is like me in that she doesn't like putting her face in the water. But, she is making progress - she is up to Minnow at the Y which is the intermediate level, but she is going to have to take the session a few more times to master it. I'd be happy if she could dog paddle her way to safety!

That's a good goal. I wish I could do a tri but with walking instead of running. I would need a lot of practice for the swimming though because I haven't done any since last summer. I'm thinking of signing up for one or two swimming classes this spring.

I think you SHOULD learn how to ride a bike, it's so much fun. When I went riding as a kid and felt the wind on my face, it always made me feel so free like I was flying!

I have a brand new bike but I haven't rode it much because I got it when I gained a lot of weight due to my failing thyroid. Now that I've lost a lot of weight, I need to get on it and learn to ride it. I will do that this spring/summer if you learn to ride a bike Teena!

Jen, you lost quite a bit of weight last year when you were swimming, and it seems like you really enjoyed it.  GO FOR IT!   I love splashing in the water too :)

Donna, I think everyone should learn how to swim...for safety sake, especially if you have children.

My mom never learned but my Dad was in the Navy so he could, although his style was way less than textbook LOL. I took lessons at the Y when I was a kid too and learned how to swim underwater. I didn't learn the proper way to swim on top until I took classes at a local community college.

I was also walking for about an hour and half a day and taking water exercise classes three days a week at my pool with THE best water aerobics teacher EVER! I can't wait until summer is here.

I love swimming, but there's not a good place for me to do it regularly. When I

had the arthritis, I spent a lot of time in the therapy pool at a nearby gym,

but our finances have change so that we can't afford that anymore.

We had Lifesaving and Survival Swimming classes in the military, plus just

regular PE swimming. We also had some SCUBA training, but not enough to get

certified. SCUBA was a LOT of fun!!

Donna, I think everyone should learn how to swim...for safety sake, especially if you have children.

My mom never learned but my Dad was in the Navy so he could, although his style was way less than textbook LOL. I took lessons at the Y when I was a kid too and learned how to swim underwater. I didn't learn the proper way to swim on top until I took classes at a local community college.

Oh Jen, I wish we lived closer... it would be a good ab workout for you watching me trying to ride a bike... you would laugh so hard! LOL I will get out there soon, problem is I would have to buy a bike for me.... Allie's is too small and 's is way too big. I've tried them both! :)Teena

Donna, swimming is a great total body exercise and once you learn how to do it you WILL like it, I'm sure. You could start with the side stroke. I love the crawl/freestyle and the butterfly (it's tough!) Jen
