Guest guest
I am blessed to have three IBCLC's close to me - one was my mentor and still a close friend. Another was an intern of my mentor and a close friend now also. And the third is a LLL that is also IBCLC. We all cover for each other - sometimes just by giving moms numbers and saying could you see her - or at times fwding our phones to each other. We also "share" pumps if need be. I feel lucky to not have to be worried when we go away. Others might think we are too close to our competition - we don't look at it that way - we all have our own businesses and have our own contacts - referral base. There are enough moms to go around here for sure. As far as being sick - If I feel sick and it is a contagious type thing I referr to someone else. When I was nursing my daughter I felt I never got sick - this last fall I was sick alot - I only had to refer once though - almost seemed like they knew not to call me . Looking fwd to Disney in a few weeks - need the rest ?!?! Regards, Donna
Guest guest
I am the only IBCLC in town, and have worried about this problem. In the past 2 years I have held my breath that I wouldn't get sick. When I left town, I would call and retrieve my messages once or twice a day, call mom's back and if they couldn't/shouldn't wait until I returned, I would refer them to the local LLL. Now the local LLL leader (she's the only one) is 8 months pregnant with her 3rd, she does not do house calls, though she has had mom's come to her home. I'm worried about overloading her with her new baby. Recently I met someone who is an RN, she worked with a physician I highly regard as bf friendly (he actually called her and introduced us). They increased the rate of bf on the local airforce base from 28% to 72% in 3+ years, she was educated for her Lactation Education at the UCLA program. When we met, we discussed philosophy of bf, and swapped stories about cases that we worked with. I have never worked with her, but did feel comfortable with the information that I obtained. I am considering having her as a back up when I leave to go out of town, or when I am sick. I was wondering if any of you would share (off board) what your finanical obligation with your " on call " person? Do you give her a " on call " fee? what do you pay her if she see's a client? Thanks Dalton RNC, IBCLC, RLC
