I have been neglecting strength workouts lately as I have been working out inconsistently these days and mostly grab cardio, mostly for the calorie burn and when I do strength it seems to be mostly lower body, again for the calorie burn. This is in distinct opposition to my commitment to overall health & fitness so I decided to correct it a bit by doing Cathe's the Upper Body Push Pull Premix off Muscle Max since I didn't have time for the entire workout (this premix is 33 minutes). I have done the entire Muscle Max workout once (2 1/2 years ago according to my log!) and really enjoyed it but just don't pull it out for some reason. I've never done any of the premixes. I found the editing on this extremely choppy and hard to follow. I know there's a push/pull exercise strategy but I don't know the concept so perhaps if I'd understood the strategy I might have found the sequence of exercise more understandable and predictable but it seemed like we bounced around a lot. I especially didn't like that she's start an exercise seemingly in the middle of a set so, since she didn't announce what the exercise was all the time, I had no idea what weights to get and usually watched the first rep or two, then paused the DVD, then got my weights for things like that. I don't know if this is what premixes tend to be like (I have done very few of them) but I didn't enjoy it. I got a good workout, I think, I certainly felt challenged having done so little upper body work in a long time but it wasn't fun. I know the full workout is and I'm betting the Upper Body Premix itself is probably a lot smoother too so I might try that sometime for a 42 minute upper body workout. Anyway, fun isn't all there is to it and I'm glad I did something. Today was particularly challenging because the kids are off school, I don't have any meetings today and I slept in really late... all a recipe to skip a workout but I didn't so that is very good!
