Just thought I'd share: we just did our taxes, and my income from my private practice last year was a whopping $760! Better than last year, when I lost money. I am pretty happy, though. I really just wanted to work part-time, not lose money, and pay for things I wanted to do like go to conferences and set up my home office. I think someday I will make decent money (though I'm sure not enough to support my family, thank goodness I don't have to), but for now, I am happy with the flexibility I have to be around for my kids.

Well, I only charged for consults from October to December 2005, since that is when I became an IBCLC.  Before that, my income was only from pump rentals/retail.  I would say I averaged 2 consults/week.  I wouldn't know how to estimate hours worked, since I just find little chunks here and there. In a message dated 9/4/2006 10:37:10 A.M. I have been thinking that two consults / week is about what I would want to do max. I am currently doing two or three each month with no pump rentals. I am a labor doula but only do about two or three births / year due to my kids and my husband is out of country quite a bit. Thanks for sharing. It always helps to gauge where I am with other people. As far as I know, I am the only person in private practice who does home visits in El Paso (pop. about 600,000) so it's difficult to gauge against anyone here!!

Lynette, Thanks for reminding me what my
