,

I am another mother that understands your frustration. My husband is still

in denial. I really don't think he would say he believes in OCD. Garrett only

confides in me. I think he intuitively knows that my husband doesn't

understand or should I say, denies the possiblity. My husband thinks Garrett

needs

to work more (like he did on the farm when he was growing up) so he has less

time to play, or should I say think. He doesn't want me to share Garrett's

concerns or fears. His comment is usually, " I don't want to hear about it. I'm

not going to discuss this. " There really is no emotional support for me or

Garrett.

>>My daughter choses to share everything with me, and only me.

While I love that she can confide in me, I feel bitter sometimes that I

have to carry the load of her problems. That is why others do not see

her OCD as such a big deal.

LKS: This is exactly how I feel. I have almost said these exact words. I

wonder how many fathers are like my husband. He is sort of in denial. He

acknowledges that his son has this problem, but he minimizes it and doesn't talk

about it...mostly like you, because I'm really the one actually dealing with it

head-on. I considered having my husband go with us to the next doctor's visit.

Cody asked that his dad not go in, but I told him after we talk about OCD, maybe

the doctor could talk to his dad and explain a little about it. I wondered how

many mothers out there deal with their spouses having this attitude about the

OCD.

Corrina,

Yeah! That's how my husband is! It's so tough, because I want him to be more

patient and understanding with Cody, and I think if he really understood the

OCD, he would be. It's sad, because my son wants to make his dad so proud and

strives to do so. I believe that's why he chooses not to tell his dad anything

about his OCD thoughts.

Thanks for sharing that. Maybe in time, they'll be forced at one point or

another to face it, deal with it, and accept it. My gut tells me that's ahead

for us, although I doubt it will be easy.

Take care,
