With summer here, I want to ask Dr JM's opinion on the threat - or not - of

chlorinated swimming pools to our children. My son regresses every summer

and I am DETERMINED!!! to beat it off this year. We have thought the

problem is mildew, as our summer house has a lot, but of course it could be

other environmental factors such as swimming in poolwater. I'd hate to hold

back on that this summer, because he loves it so, but I will if I should.

Otherwise, my thought is to shower him off religiously after each swim and

then apply epsom salts cream. Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Abbie

Let them swim as much as possible; there are many benefits. The shower

right after is the best thing to do; we then immediately put about 1/2 tsp

of Magnesium Sulfate cream on the kidswhich counteracts the chlorine (even

takes the smell away) and have no problems. Kirkman's has it, but the one I

use if you have a doc to prescribe it is made by a compounding pharmacy in

WA state; Key Pharmacy, . Ask your doc to give you a prn

(whenever needed) one time prescription, and you can call them when you need

more. One jar lasts a long time. Dr. JM

My son has similar problems with chlorine, and an immediate shower is the

rule here. It seems to be working so far this summer, after about 4-5 trips

to the pool. He's resisting the bath with Epsom salts, but that would be my

first choice. I think your ideas are fine and that it will work.

Great thing about Epsom salt: you can buy it cheap. How many things that

work on our kids are cheap?

Looking on the bright side,

Liz

Liz,

If the baths don't work you can use the magnesium sulphate cream...I've been

doing that with Chelsey for years...It's become one of our ceremonies...She puts

it on me as well.
