Hi Gitta,

sorry, no real answer, but catastrophic in this context means " massive, leading

to death " .

In my opinion, Connie´s solution of " absolute Arrhytmie " is not correct [i've

checked Pschyraembel and other sources] in that this term only means to denote a

definite, clear, pathological arrhytmia

[tachycardia or bradycardia] as opposed the mere fact that the heart's rhythm

may alter [e.g. due to panic attacks].

I'm pretty sure of this but as I am not a doctor, perhaps other colleagues'

opinions may help narrow it down further yet.

Generally, brady- and tachycardia are not called arrhythmias.

This term usually refers to extrasystoles, ectopic rhythms, etc.

As for " catastrophic " , I am not a native Eng speaker but this sounds odd to me.

In this

case, " extremely severe " or " potentially fatal " may be more appropriate,

depending on the

context.

Hi,

I agree with Dee, that " catastrophic " in this context is not a technical

term

but simply a synonym for " fatal " (meaning " tödlich " as well as something

like " schwerwiegend " here).
