Guest guest
How are his poops? Rebound after Nystatin is common as is bacteria filling the hole where yeast used to be but sounded from the other email you are doing the right things Mandi x Does anyone have any thoughts on the changes in behaviour my 3 year old has experienced recently? I'm terrified he's regressing again. Over the last week or 2, he is always "wired", and has lost interest in toys and can't focus on any activity for very long (other than physical). Could any of the following be causing this? - Just finished 4 weeks of Nystatin. - Mineral deficiency? (calcium perhaps?). - Change of scene/lack of sleep - the change happened noticably while we were away over half term. - Oil boiler? The place we stayed (and go to regularly) has an oil boiler and big oil tank in the garden. Could boiler oil be a source of xylene exposure or am I barking up? Many thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions. nah
Guest guest
we had a regression after a two-week course of nystatin (at the time I put it down entirely to supernutera, but nystatin may have played a big part too). the regression was reversed a month later when we went on SCD diet - is your son on it? if not I highly recommend it. We were back to baseline in about a week. 5 years later we tried nystatin again and again had a bad reaction to it the same day. Same thing two days later so stopped altogether. apart from the boiler was there anything else in that place that could be causing sensitivities or allergic reactions. was he surrounded by animals? insects? did he sneeze or have a cold etc in that period? Guest guest
Nystatin also has a strep connection. Streptomyces noursei is the source. see, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nystatin > > How are his poops? Guest guest
Thanks for all of this - so much food for thought. A part from those mentioned, we haven't had any nasty side effects like yours, Alison. I just checked and the one we've just finished (Squibb Nystan) has no sulphur (but does have benzoates). He's on digestive enzymes and probiotics but was wondering about increasing probiotics (also boulardii, which was mentioned in the current thread on yeast) - my local health shop wasn't up on it but going to look into it for me. Can you recommend any probiotics? Poops are as erratic as ever. We had a brief period near the start where he did 5 wet ones/day, but stopped (and behaviours continued - giggles, teeth grinding, spinning etc.). Stuff about bacteria and strep is interesting. OAT (march) showed lots of bacteria already and we're about to start metronidizole (nervous about this). You are suggesting that if the yeast has improved, the bacteria may have got worse, Mandi? He's not on SCD but is gfcf (so some overlap), but naturally seems to avoid grains (stopped eating rice and gf pastas) and craves meat and fruit. Would you do scd and gfcf together? Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions. nah > > > > > > How are his poops? Guest guest
Natasa, I missed the bit about colds etc. yes, he did have a runny nose for a few days. And yes my sister's dogs were there , it's in the countryside, so potential for pollens, insects, etc. too. (Always thought it must be better than London air!). When we went at Easter, he had an awful cold + regression that lasted ages. Do you think sensitivities like this could lead to so much regression? Thank you again, nah > > > > Does anyone have any thoughts on the changes in behaviour my 3 year > old has experienced recently? Guest guest
SCD is gluten-free, because no grains. Also, no milk. Teh risk of a clasic GF diet is that all sorts of other processed starch and sugar gets tend to used in the diet to replace wheat; to my thinking (and others') this is not good. I suggest you look at the GAPs diet - Natasha McBride wrtoe a book " Gut and Psychology Syndrome " which is in some ways similar to the SCD. She suggest for example cooking with home-made clarified butter, which is very low in casein, as well as using other animal fats for cooking eg goose fat rather than vegetable oild. Also to make lots of home made stews and soups, using bones for broth. Margaret > > > > > > > > How are his poops? Guest guest
Yes, imo it is very likely that such sensitivities lead to regressions, via a domino effect. I also think this happens much more than we realise (as not immediately obvious), and that IgE/MC/histamine hyperreactions are a huge part of the picture for most our kids. watch this top video link http://www.autismmedia.org/media3.html (that guy will be presenting at the TA conference next weekend http://www.treatingautism.co.uk/ hth Natasa > > > > > > Does anyone have any thoughts on the changes in behaviour my 3 year > > old has experienced recently? Guest guest
Thanks, Natasa, I watched part 1 (need time to absorb before moving to part 2). It's absolutely fascinating stuff. I'm more and more convinced that my son is experiencing some kind of allergic reaction every time we go there, (to what, I don't know - will just have to stay away for a while)and that it's nothing to do with change of scene. The regression is so clearly visible. Sadly, I missed the deadline for registering for the conference and am absolutely gutted, but lots of information to take in in the meantime, including the remaining parts of Dr Theoharides' interview. Guest guest
I just watched these videos - very interesting. Natasa, i note his research stems from 2008 - does anyone/you know if anyone else has 'run' with this? or does it remain theory. makes sense for my boy, i looked up pictures of kids suffering from 'masto-mania' and he has had this all this life ! never diagnosed of course - very interesting > > > > > > > > > > Does anyone have any thoughts on the changes in behaviour my 3 > > year > > > > old has experienced recently?
