When you have some time I would love to talk to you about them. Intro > I am returning to the list after a long hiatus. I had a baby during that time who will be 17mos on Friday. He, like my 3.5yr old daughter has IgA deficiency. We have never had there subclasses for IgG done b/c of not wanting to take blood again unless we were already doing something else! Both of my children have severe allergies and the 3.5yr old has mild asthma, the baby has mod. asthma esp. with colds etc. Grace is my sinus kid and Caelan is my pulmonary/pneumonia kid. Caelan has severe life threatening food allergy as well. We are currently trying to figure out what is going on with Grace, b/c over 50% of her hair has fallen out since November. We go to the immunologist again on Friday to have repeat allergy testing and consultation and I am going to insist on blood workup for sure. I am a little concerned about hypothyroid since her hair texture changed to coarse and dry right before it fell out and she's been pretty fatigued lately. You're right, you never know at times just what OCD might affect and lead to avoidance (as in the play tubes) or just what is going on in their little minds! My son (in 9th grade) won't say much of anything about his OCD, but I find that anytime he seems to be possibly avoiding something (even just going to the kitchen to get a drink), I wonder if it's his OCD. I'm sure you'll read about quite a variety of behaviors here, and more if you search the archives. There's also some great info in the FILES section of our group you might want to look over. Yes this is a good place to read about the infinite variety of OCD behaviors LOL :-) The archives are searchable, you can search " contamination " or any other term and read what others have posted about it. Contamination (the McD's tubes) is among the most common OCD obsessions, and avoidance of the germy or otherwise dirty thing is the universal compulsion related to this. It sounds too like your son has a mental compulsion as well (the robot image.) IMO mental compulsions are harder to deal with because if the child doesn't mention them, it's easy to put this down to inattention, etc. You probably know that a high percentage of children dxed with TS have obsessions and compulsions as well. There is a behavior therapy, called Cognitive Behavior Therapy with Exposure and Response Prevention, that reduces and eliminates OCD symptoms. Finding an expert practitioner with experience treating children can be challenging though depending on where you live--but very worth the effort. Medication and side effect free, won't worsen the TS, a good deal all around. My daughter soon to turn 10 is dxed OCD +tics, and some combo of these two disorders (often with some ADHD thrown into the mix as well) is pretty common among the kids of those of us on this list. I took ds to Mc's today and told him the desire to not go into the tubes wasn't " him, " it was the thoughts from OCD and he should ignore them. I have been doing the B12 shots for quite a few months. I only noticed he's louder, holding his ears and screaming somewhat more than usual today so I hope that's typical ? or maybe this promotes yeast? other than this I will probably be mostly lurking to learn more about valtrex. I have heard some talk of their being different strains- is one strain better than the other? Is ordering through the mail ok, or does anyone know of good local (Colorado) sources?
