Guest guest
Forgive me if this is obvious, but we've had great results with removing artificial ingredients and colors a la Feingold diet. Nitrites are a big-time problem for him as well. All of these result in hyperactivity and poor focus. He reacts to this stuff more than anything else. My son is still on Concerta, which works great, but has a small amount of casein. He is not reacting to it, but he's not a big reactor to small amounts of casein and gluten. I plan on taking a doctor-supervised break from the stimulants this summer, to see if we can eventually go pharmaceutical-free. Guest guest
Well, we've tried removing different foods, dyes, etc. We know that corn makes her cry, but I just can't get a handle on which foods make her hyper - I think it could be more than that. The Ritalin was wonderful. We used it 6 years, but you have to gradually remove them from it. It took us about three weeks of reducing the dosage until she was off. She told me that she hated it, too. I don't know - maybe I'm the one who needs to be medicated!! ha I guess I just hate to start her back on Ritain when it took us a while to get her off of it. Our doctor said that we could try Provigil which doesn't have the side effects of Ritalin. It's used for narcolepsy - I think. Anyway, it's a CNS stimulant. I have it here at the house - I guess I'll try it. I've just been waiting to see if she could well on her own. Do you like the concerta? Guest guest
We like the Concerta, but I can't emphasize enough how everyone is different. My brother, with severe ADHD, hates Concerta. The only other piece of advice with meds I can offer is to change only one thing at a time. It's easy to get caught up in trying to do everything at once, and then you don't know what is causing changes and what is not. Also, it might be worthwhile for your daughter to do the SCD instead of gfcfsf. With SCD, you start out with very few foods and add them back in one at a time. This could be what you need to do the detective work on what your daughter is reacting to.
