Dear parents the Senate Education Hearing committee is soliciting feedback from

parents in Austin in two weeks 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, in E1.028. It is

obvious from the email what is going on. So we would like to invite you to go

and represent what is really going on so we have a chance for improvement " , it

starts with YOU. The email below was sent to me by a parent who was on a

distribution list. Apparently, Partners is Resource isn't interested in hearing

your not so " positive " feedback at the committee. Please feel free to forward

this email without any restrictions.

I recently received an email from the state Sp Ed Directors Assoc. One item

caught my attention. Hopefully some of you are aware of this & of how parents

and groups can have input.

" The Senate Education Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, in

E1.028 to hear invited and public testimony on the following charge:

Senate Interim Charge 6: Study the effectiveness of Texas school districts'

special education programs. Review the range of needs of special education

students, districts' ability to provide an appropriate education for these

students, and assess the effectiveness of programs currently funded for special

education. Make recommendations for improvement.

The Senate Education Committee will also consider this charge on June 28.

TCASE will be represented at the hearing, but would love to hear from you if you

plan to attend and/or be a witness at this hearing. If you have parents who are

interested in sharing their positive experiences with your special education

program, please share information about this hearing.

To view any of these hearings at their scheduled time, you can link to them at

the Senate web site. http://www.senate.state.tx.us/bin/live.php

Between each Legislative Session, the Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the

House appoint " Interim Committees " to study key issues and research information

that will help guide the legislature's decisions in the future. These committees

hold hearings and obtain public input that affect the legislature's actions and

outcomes during the next session.

If you have any comments or information on this process that would help parents

please share it.
