Guest guest
Hi everyone, Today I had my follow up meeting with my orthopaedic doc about my elbow. But that is not the interesting thing. In July he classified my double joints / hypermobility / very flexible joints / hyperlaxity as the following: Ehler Danlos Syndrome Apparently this is the official name given to an assortment of related similar genetic disorders. In my case, I have class 3 which is hyperlax / hypermobile joints. From my basic reading of this, essential it is a problem with collagen (hmmm another protein disorder) production in the connective tissues (read ligaments). Ehlers Danlos is categorised by: .. Very loose joints .. Joint pain (caused by the nerve encasement in the collagen being disturbed / not optimal) .. Easily dislocated joints (esp knees, shoulders, you name it) .. Muscle lack of response to trauma (meaning muscles are slow to tighten due to constant hyperlax state - leading to diminished reflexes in some cases) And lots of other things that made me think of a lot of posts I have read. This is a hereditary genetic condition too, like CMT. I was diagnosed with this as I had dislocated my elbow and in a lot of the tests around my high arches in 2004 (when I wanted to walk a marathon and asked for shoe inserts I wound up seeing way more than an orthotist and walking away with way more than plastic for my shoes). It is something that I think maybe a lot of people would relate to. Check out google, Wikipedia and the medical sites and if you think it relevant mention it to your doctor too. I wonder how many of us have this as well? Best wishes, Donna from London
