Guest guest
Again, a warm welcome to you. AFO means " Ankle Foot Orthotic " , yes many with CMT use them to help in walking and with footdrop. There are many different types. An alternative to the plastic might be AFOs that are made out of carbon graphite. My orthotics are firm, but flexible and very comfortable. Depending on the strength of the ankle, in-shoe custom made orthotics may help first. A good orthotist can help determine your needs. I recommend New Balance shoes, they come in a wide variety of sizes and widths. Now there is a new line of New Balance, called Aravon, which are better for office and dress wear. If there is muscle that has not atrophied in the ankle, a physical therapist can show you about exercises for strength. ~ Gretchen
