Jane,

I too have a very hard time getting pain free at the dentist and need 2-3 shots

and ½ hour before they can work on me. I was never afraid of the dentist and now

I am petrified. I have a high tolerance for pain, but not the dentist. I need a

root canal and too scared to get one although I know the dangers of not having

it. If they would knock me out, then I would do it. Anyone else experience this?

I do not recall this happening to me years ago and it seems to more pronounced

in the last year.

I too need extra shots at the dentist too. This has been for about the past 15

yrs now. And I've always had a very high pain tolerance. I've also learned as

I've gotten older that this is not a good thing. My age is 55.

Yes, yes, yes! So has my son. Luckily when having my first root canal,

I was an employee of the dentist doing it so he knew I wasn't a cry

baby and scaredy-cat. He said if it was anyone else he would have

thought they were just panicking. I felt everything in that tooth until he was

able to open it and squirt lidocaine directly into the canal before I had

relief. I once had 12 shots of lidocaine in one sitting which numbed everything

but that tooth and made me really loopy for a while. I now have a dentist in LA

who has been able to get me numb everytime. I asked him how and he said he uses

a " ligajet " . I don't know what that is, but maybe you can ask your dentist about

it. If you are in the LA area you can check out Dr. Barrett in Brentwood.

Thank you; I will ask my dentist; I actually ran into my old dentist who retired

today and told him how much I miss him and how much pain I feel now!
