Could it be a mistype for CEIC (Comite Etico de Investigacion Clinica)

which I usually translate for IRB (Institutional Review Board)?

Dear Colleagues,

May I note that IRB and Ethics Committee are different entities?

IRB is institutional, whereas Ethics Committee is usually an independent

committee.

Actually, in the recommendations for unifying clinical trial terminology and the

common technical document, they often use IRB/IEC in English

Dear Barbara,

You are right! The functions of IRB and IEC are similar.

However, my impression is that some countries use IRB, whereas others use

IEC.

This is why I'd never translate IRB as IEC and vice versa.

Agreed, but since we're all going to be following the CTD soon we should bring

translations into line with it. The good thing is that it should become easier

to translate clinical trial documents.
