Hi, ...welcome to the group. I'm e...have a 26 month old on the spectrum. He is so darling too...I know what you mean about yours being sweet...mine is too...he has his moments, but he is a doll, and much less "intense" then my 5 yr old little girl. LOL...

Anyhow...there are others who can help more, as their kiddos are older. I do understand the ins and outs of getting a home therapy group going...but I'm not at the IEP time as of yet. receives ABA, OT, and Speech...if you ever have any questions relating to those things, I might be able to help you!

Welcome, Welcome.

Hi welcome to the group. My son is 33 months so very close

in age. My son is on the Gf/CF diet and its been great for him. Not

all children do well or need it, but if you would like any help with

it just ask. It can be very hard at first as gluten is hardly ever

listed in ingredients.

Do you have an advocate or someone to help you during the IEP

proccess? Other than the early intervention staff? This can be a very

tricky thing. So may laws and fine print type things. All the horror

stories i hear..I am scared to pieces..so we hired an advocate..which

we cannot afford but ...we will somehow...lol..

My best advice for starters is getting Stanley Greenspans book "

Engaging Autism " It is a treasure of information on how us parents

can work with our kids in a beautiful and very beneficial way. It

also helped me decide what my childs needs were and we added on some

other important therapies... does your daughter have sensory needs or

show tactile defensiveness or need lots of input?

e can pipe in on this one also... She has a great program set

up for her son ..somewhat similar to what I do also. Every child has

some different needs that you as a mom will figure out as you read

and become more educated etc...you will feel much more empowered. With

Stanley Greenspans Floortime..it does help with non verbal

communication..which imho is important to have before functional

verbal communication can happen. Thats how typical children progress

through language.

My son is apraxic so he has a very hard time with articulation. He is

pretty strong in non verbal now..so once his articulation is better (

working on it ) we think this foundation will really shine through.

Have you looked into pecs type communication? My son did the program

and it worked out great. I was worried it would become easier for him

to use than speech but this has not been the case. It actually got

him speaking more. We put small photos 2 inch by 2 inch of his 3

favorite tv shows, velcro to the tv stand and he can give us the one

he wants to watch ( limited times though ) We also put foods and

drinks velcro to the fridge which he can get and bring to us when he

wants something. He will use the word now, when he gives it to us.

This gave him some " power of choice " in an appropriate way and

took away some of his frustration.

I love that you call your children flowers. What a great expression

of your love for them..welcome and hope you find some of this helpful
