Dr. McCandless (and anyone else with an opinion!)-

Can you please retell this story, because I missed it. We suspend my son's

DMSA in 1/4 strength pear juice, mixed just before giving in a syringe, to

get it down. His best days are his chelation days (although he went through

a regression in the beginning), which makes me think that something is

working. What is the best way to give DMSA to a child who can't swallow

capsules? Isn't it going to come into contact with food, liquid and stomach

acids in the stomach anyway? Should I be mixing it with water?

TIA (and I apologize if this has been covered before - I get behind on my

emails),

Kathy

It is also unstable in either liquid or lotion form; it must be opened fresh

each time you use it, and given orally. Dr. JM----- Original Message -----

years ago when we first started this process we (and many other parents) were

getting our DMSA compounded by a pharmacist that made large batches at a time.

(like enough for a couple of months). We all didn't know then that DMSA needed

to be opened fresh for every dose.

The way we're all doing it now is correct. (at least I hope)

I have heard it is better if mixed with pinneaple juice - more acidic? I was

also told it could last thru the night ok if refrigerated. I used to put it in a

small cooler in my room.

Yes, this is correct. DMSA will break down much slower in

an ACIDID liquid. You should be able to keep a solution

in pineapple juice for half a day or so--- I really don't

know how long--- I would suggest just limiting it to one

capsule's worth in liquid at a time.
