Guest guest
Rarely: I usually recommend the 25mg VRP's zinc monomethionine nightly for most kids, as we know it goes in better when given alone. As most kids need much more than this, they get the rest (usually in the form of zinc picolinate alone or as part of Pic-Mins) with their othr supplements. Dr. JM Zinc Can Zinc before bed time cause aggitation, or hyperness? best, Ann
Guest guest
Dr. McCandless, If there is any way I can help you with computer issues (via email, phone, or fax), I'll be more than happy to. I'm in Dallas, so I can't fix the system in person, but I'll be happy to troubleshoot in any way that I can. Guest guest
Dr. McCandless, I heard a long time ago that zinc in the form of monomethionine does not compete with copper, so that for the kids with a copper/zinc imbalance, another form of zinc would be preferable, since in these cases, you would want to bring down copper. Would you know if this is true? My son, (19 years old, 140 lbs), takes 150 mg zinc picolinate per day. He does seem to need that high a dose, but I do wonder about the picolinate vs. the monomethionine. As long as we're on the topic, do you know if there is a good high dose zinc product anywhere? 150mg is 5 caps of 30 mg each, on top of all the other supplements he needs to take. Thanks! a H. Guest guest
I always prefer to use both the monomethionine and the picolinate together for best results. Often I have kids on Thorne's Pic-Mins, which have 15mg of the zinc picolinate, plus molybdenum which also opposes copper, plus selenium, manganese, chrominum, and other minerals extremely important to our kids, with the methionine cap(s) given at bedtime for helping the sleep and being given away from any calcium, as calcium and zinc bond and make both less effective. I have not heard that the methionine does not oppose copper; do you have a source for that information? Thorne has zinc picolinate double, which is 30mg, and zinc monomethionine (from VRP) is 25mg (tiny little caps). I do not know of any higher dosed products. Probably the reason is that it is primarily our population who need these high levels of zinc, so there's not such a big market. Dr. JM .
