Guest guest
Since we know that Vitamin A is vital to combatting measles, I would think starting an intensive Vitamin A regimen would help. I would also add Vitamin E, C to bowel tolerance and Zinc. Peg P Mit and Janie's Mom > I recently met a lady last week at a company dinner. At one point, a brief conversation developed about vaccines and I made a comment about that we were also dealing with a vaccine injured child. > The lady called me today, very upset and asking for some direction. Her niece, age 15 months received the MMR two weeks ago. Since then, the little girl is having inconsolable crying, and is having balance problems. She is obviously having a severe reaction. > What is the protocol for trying to help the assault on the immune system so soon after the vaccine? I know it involves high doses Vit. C, maybe Zinc. I just don't remember. > Can someone please advise me as to give these people some direction. I will also be directing them to some educational websites, and Dr. McCandless's book. This is so sad, this story is repeating itself still, even with mercury free vaccines. > Thanks for any help. > in Ruston > >

Of course the doctors are telling her they don't know what to do and don't know for sure that it is the MMR that is doing this. > What is the protocol for trying to help the assault on the immune system so soon after the vaccine? ---------------------------- Unicef routinely gives high doses of the cis form of Vitamin A in conjunction with MMR or measles vaccines in developing countries. Studies have shown that the vaccine induced mortality rate was cut to near zero by that practice. I wish I had known about prophylactic vitamin A before my own children's viral vaccines. The parent may be able to mitigate the damage at this stage with vitamin A. Cod liver oil is available refined such that the vitamin D is nearly non-existant. If it were my child I would give 200,000IU daily over 3 days. Days 9-14 are the most critical days for vitamin A levels. Studies have also shown that in the acute stage of measles infection, fever control medications far increase the liklihood of prolonged complicated disease. Yalcin SS, Yurdakok K, Ozalp I, Coskun T. Department of Social Pediatrics, Hacettepe University Institute of Child Health, Ankara, Turkey. OBJECTIVE: Serum retinol levels have been shown to be depressed during measles infection. This study aims to demonstrate whether there is any decrease in serum vitamin A level following immunization with live viral vaccine and its relation with vaccine seroconversion in children with measles. Since many children receive measles vaccine alone or in combination with measles-mumps-rubella vaccine, we studied serum vitamin A levels and antibody levels in healthy, well-nourished children before and after immunization with monovalent and combined live attenuated measles vaccine. METHODS: The first group included 21 healthy children between the ages of 9- 11 months who received live measles (Schwarz) vaccine. There were also 21 healthy children (range 14-20 months of age) who received measles-mumps-rubella Trimovax (Pasteur Merieux) vaccine. All children were tested for serum vitamin A levels before vaccination, on days 9-14 and 30-42 following both vaccinations. Measles specific antibody levels were also measured on admission and 30-42 days following vaccinations. RESULTS: In both vaccination groups, mean serum vitamin A levels reduced significantly on days 9-14, but increased slightly on days 30-42 in the measles-mumps-rubella vaccinated group (P < 0.05). The baseline and follow-up levels of mean serum vitamin A did not differ between seroconverted and nonseroconverted cases within the measles vaccinated group. CONCLUSION: Serum vitamin A levels are reduced following vaccination with monovalent and combined live attenuated measles vaccines. PMID: 9745778 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] ----- Vitamin A and Nutrition: Several studies show that when patients with measles are given vitamin A supplements, their complication rates and chances of dying are significantly reduced. For example, as early as 1932 doctors used cod-liver oil—high in vitamin A—to treat measles and lower mortality by 58 percent.(11) Studies conducted in 1958 and 1961 confirmed that the wild measles virus has a severe short-term effect on immunity and the child's nutritional status, especially vitamin A and nitrogen metabolism.(12,13) But antibiotics —- later shown to be ineffective at treating measles -— soon replaced vitamin A therapy, and by the 1960s vaccinations gained preference over treatment protocols. However, during the mid- 1980s new studies demonstrated an increased risk of diarrhea, respiratory disease, and death in children with mild vitamin A deficiency.(14,15) 1. In a 1987 study conducted in Tanzania, Africa, 180 children with measles were randomly divided into two groups and received routine treatment alone or with 200,000 i.u. of orally administered vitamin A. Mortality rates in the vitamin A group were cut in half. In fact, children under two years of age who did not receive vitamin A were nearly eight times more likely to die (Figure 1).(16) In 1990, the New England Journal of Medicine confirmed that vitamin A supplements significantly reduce measles complication and death rates.(17) In 1992, researchers measured vitamin A levels in children with measles and determined that deficiencies were associated with lower levels of measles-specific antibodies, higher and longer lasting fevers, and a greater probability of being hospitalized.(18) The authors of the study recommended Vitamin A therapy for children under two years of age with severe measles.(19) And a 1993 study showed that 72 percent of all measles cases in the U.S. requiring hospitalization are deficient in vitamin A. The greater the deficiency, the worse the complications and higher the probability of dying.(20) Malnutrition is clearly responsible for higher disease complication and death rates.(21) According to Morley, infectious disease expert, " Severity of measles is greatest in the developing countries where children have nutritional deficiencies... The child with severe measles and an immune system suppressed by malnutrition secretes the virus three times longer than does a child with normal nutrition. " (22) Dr. Viera Scheibner, vaccine researcher, summarizes the data more succinctly: " Children in Third World countries need improved vitamin A and general nutritional status, not vaccines. Guest guest
Thank you for the info. I had read this too. I wonder how this vit. A is different than the Palmitate Re: Please advise/Anyone!!
