Guest guest
Hi - Your post brought back many memories of times with my dad. It was always just me doing the hospital admits and staying with him all night. My dad didn't talk the last 2 1/2 yrs of his life...just a mumbling 'yes' or 'no' of which most people couldn't even understand that, just me. Anyhow, you mentioned Trazadone. My dad had taken that and he definitely had bad reactions to it. It seemed to make him more aggressive and busy all the time. His hallucinations and delusions were worse while on it. He seemed to have the typical 'adverse reactions' that LBD people can have while on some medications. Please try to take some deep breaths. May you find strength in knowing you aren't alone and that many prayers are going up in your name. Kia Kaha - Stay Strong- Sandie -- So Frustrated - Well I've just spent the last 6 hrs. in the hospital with my mom. She got worse from her fall last week and a wheezing, cough this weekend. So we took her to our E.R. I don't know why I ever do that. I'm so mad, and frustrated, and just plain exhausted. Called our family dr. in Lubbock and they said we could do either take her here or there, my dad wanted to go there. The dr. in E.R. just literally went into a rage when we went in saying that really we should take her to Lubbock where her two drs. are...that's the problem with these people they get drs. a 100 miles away and that's fine, but then they get sick and need a dr. in this town and this hospital can't properly treat them because they don't have their past history. Said it was really a waster of our and her time. Then proceeded to tell us that she needed to be in an Nursing Home, that my dad and I couldn't take care of her. That we needed to make a decision about that. I mean she hadn't even checked her, x-rayed for a break, blood work, heck she hadn't even listened to her heart...she just went into this tyrade. I was so mad...I said look, this is a hospital, we came here to see if she has any broken bones or if she has an infection causing her coughing and choking problems. You haven't even checked her, we're not taking her to Lubbock. You check her, do some tests, and then we'll decide what we're going to do. She got so mad. She said well we'll just do a 23 hr. admit and see what the doc on call says. Luckily nothing was broken( if I can trust her), but she had some fever almost 100. I'm just so frustrated. My mother in two weeks time has gone from being able to slowly walk into a drs. office, to not even being able to walk, talk, respond properly to anything, she can't eat, her neck is stiff and back, she's a nervous wreck and doesn't have much apetite...and that's just a few symptoms. I think one of the two meds he gave her is causing some of the problems. Either the Seroquel or Trazadone. I really think Seroquel. Has anyone else had problems with this. I think it has helped her hallucinations, but her Parkinson's part is ten times worse. Oh yeah the ER dr. said that there was no LBD it was just a glorified name for dementia!! I'm sorry I'm so upset. My mother is deteriorating in front of my eyes...I don't know what to do. I think at this rate she will be gone within a few months, if that long. Even my dad broke down tonight and he never has before. I'm just sitting here crying now. I hated to leave her alone at the hospital, but have to try and get some sleep. Anyway does anyone have any suggestions....Seroquel information....or what do I do now. Thank you, Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
Guest guest
HI, I am still very new to all this and this group but did want to comment on the Seroquel. My Dad was just diagnosed with LBD but in November we had to take him to the hospital because he got so confuseed and long story anyway they put him on Seroquel and he became like a zombie, unable to move hardly at all, not talking, when they stopped it he began to be able to move again and it was quite amazing. After many months we have gotten him to a new neurologist and they have him on Ablify(sp?) and he is doing well. I know from reading that many do well on Seroquel but my dad did not. It might be worth asking if you could try another drug of the same type.
