Guest guest
Marla, Lot's of kids have significant improvements on carnosine(including my own)but folks don't seem to discuss it much. For most, the improvements start in a few days to a few weeks, then they use for as long as necessary. For us it was 7 months. Dosing low and slow is best! I think carnosine and now galantamine are real favorites of Dr. Chez, (neuro in chicago).A behavior-psych I know said her ASD nephew is doing VERY well on galantamine thru Chez. > I am looking at: > The Journal of Child Neurology/Volume 17, Number 11, November 2002 > > Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study of L-Carnosine > Supplementation in Children With ASD. > > Long story short: > " Our observations regarding the autistic spectrum population suggest > improved receptive speech and improved social attention, less > apraxia, and overall global improvements. Guest guest
See pages 156-157 of CSB for a discussion of Carnosine. I have seen a few kids benefit, but most of the kids I've given it to have not shown any effects whatsoever. I think it depends upon the status of your neurotransmitters, but I know of no way to test for that. Trial and error is the name of this game. Guest guest
My son has better expressive language on carnosine. We had to start really low and slowly ramp up the dose to get lasting effects though. I've not yet tried it on my younger child who has apraxia. Guest guest
Hi, We've been giving L-Carnosine to our nearly 12 y/o son for about two years. I now give him 500mg daily with vit E and zinc, having decreased from 1000mg daily after one year in an attempt to copy Carnoware. I buy it in capsules from iherb www.iherb.com and powder form Beyond-a-Century www.beyond-a-century at what I believe are best value prices. L-Carnosine helped our son very quickly. We saw good results within the first week. With continued use son has markedly improved in his socialization skills. He now enjoys being with other kids his age and has made two new friends. His very poor eye contact has significantly improved! Son now has spontaneous speech with longer sentences averaging at least 6 words. He now actively participates in short conversations, even offers his opinion and enjoys hearing and telling jokes! I'm thrilled to share son is now described as a chatterbox (recent annual school review)! Also, he's willing to try and enjoys new activities, overcoming his fears and anxieties of trying new things. We consider L-Carnosine to be in the Top 3 supplements we give him. Wanda <L-Carnosine works well for my son. He is 3 and 1/2, apraxic, and making great gains. We have been on it for 2-3 months (have to check my records). We get it from Kirkmans and it is SCD legal, if that matters. We have been SCD for 1 and 1/2 months. Is your child apraxic? ALso, do you live in Pittsburgh? We are in Lancaster County, PA.
