Hi ,

My name is Kim. I am 42 and before getting a clinical diagnosis of CMT at 2

years ago, I was prescribed an Arizona Brace for my ankle instability (left foot

only, at the time.) Mine was black and laced up the front. It is a very hard

brace with absolutely no give, mine cut into my calf and really hurt. You can

wear it with a shoe, but depending on the shape and width of your foot, it is

difficult to find something it would fit into, especially for us females who

would like to maintain some style!

Anyhow, I now have AFOs for both legs which come up to the knee. Although they

are not attractive, I find that I really do benefit when I wear them. Again,

vanity gets in the way and I still have a hard time with wearing them.

I have seen others post on the site, who seemed to benefit fromthe Arizona

Brace, but for me it now sits in the closet. Before getting night splints for

cramping in June, I did think about trying to use the Arizona Brace to keep my

foot in place during the night, but I never tried it.

Maybe your orthotist will have a sample on hand from another patient that they

could show you - just a thought. Would your Doctor consider AFOs, or would that

work against the surgery you had?

Best Regards,

Kim - land
