Guest guest
All my other kids broke their first tooth around 4 months and it was very uneventful- I read somewhere that DS kids tend to teeth late- Has anyone experienced this??? Of course, My husband and I have a evening function tomorrow night (our first since he was born) and was going to have his first babysitter (auntie) but right now it doesn't look like it will be possible. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks Ellen Kugel ora gel will numb it .... freezing a wet washrag and letting him chew will offer him comfort and ease the pain.... I used hand cream on kaitee face when she was teething like this. she was a late teether .... but just this week she lost the two bottom baby teeth in the front ... and the two permanent teeth have sprung thru and are almost in already. Guest guest
Ellen--Many DS kids do indeed teethe later! For us, a homeopathic remedy, widely available, that helped us was Hyland's Teething tablets. They're very small. You hold one to his gums for a minute and it disintegrates right away. We've found that this calms our girls down pretty well. There's always Tylenol or Advil infant drops for pain, or teething on a frozen bagel (with supervision every second!), or--dare I say it--rubbing a pinkyful of whiskey on the gums (old fashioned, but I used it 23 years ago with my firstborn, and he's not an alcoholic, and it WORKED). The teeth might also come in strange--one here, one there, not orderly like most typical kids. Or they might be shaped "funny". Guest guest
Hi again- Hopefully someone has some advise for my poor little guy- is finally breaking his first tooth but for a week now it's been just on the verge of breaking through the gum. He is chewing on everything- gobs of goo just flowing down his checks- he is absolutely miserable. Last night was the worst he wouldn't go down to sleep- when he finally did he whimpered in his sleep and he woke up too many times to count. He won't let us near his mouth- doesn't want to take the bottle or his binky. He also woke this morning with what looks like a bad cold - just tons of clear stuff running from his nose. His cheeks are red raw- He's just a mess All my other kids broke their first tooth around 4 months and it was very uneventful- I read somewhere that DS kids tend to teeth late- Has anyone experienced this??? Guest guest
Ellen I remember those days with Brannon. I know in a few months I get to go through all of that again with le. I'm not looking forward to it. LoL With Brannon I would let him chew on a wash rag that I had froze in the freezer. I would let it thaw out some before letting him put it in his mouth b/c it might get stuck. (Have you ever seen the Christmas Story where that kid sticks his tongue on that frozen pole and it gets stuck b/c the pole was frozen, don't want that to happen to w/ the wash rag. lol) We also used lots and lots of baby orjal. That helped some. We were also given advice that you can rub baby tylenol on the gums too. I'm not sure about that, but we tried that once. I don't remember if it worked. I hope that helps you some. Give a big hug from me and I hope that tooth just comes on through so you all can get some rest. =) a Mom to Brannon 23 mths w/mds and le 1 mth old. > Hi again- > > Hopefully someone has some advise for my poor little guy- is finally breaking his first tooth but for a week now it's been just on the verge of breaking through the gum. Guest guest
Ellen, I first would suggest that you give him some baby motrin (pending dr.s approval)Then perhaps you could freeze his pacifier. This might feel good on his gums. There is always baby oragel. That stuff is real good! And pray, pray, pray! lol Sounds as though you are not gonna get to go to your outing. But, who knows, maybe you will still make it! If I was there I would take him for you! Guest guest
Dear Ellen, You might try another homeopathic teething remedy I used with great results for Gwendolyn. Try Chamomilla to help with teething symptoms. We use homeopathy ofton. Arnica is good for bruises and strains. Aconite is good for shock or trauma. I always have these remedies where ever I go. Also the Arnica and Calendula cream is in my outing medicine bag, with bandaids of course. I recomend " Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines " by Dana Ulman. I hope k feels better soon. Guest guest
Dear Ellen, Sir Jonas is going through the teething of his 5th and 6th teeth right now. He got the top front ones then the bottom front, and now he is going to be 17 months ( remembering he was 2 months premature) and is getting the two teeth on either side of the top front two. He seemed to take forever and spit and slobber a lot too. His cheeks were red and he was a sad pup. We use the night time formula of Baby Ora Gel at night and even sometimes before his nap in the afternoon and it seems to help him a lot. Every time he has teethed he has also had the clear runny nose along with it. Any doctor will tell you that one has nothing to do with the other, but my mother of 6 children disagrees with that, and so do I. Jonas even will run a small temp. The best things I found for his comfort were the ora gel and Motrin as well as cuddling and a song or two to calm him. I always put him down to classical or relaxing music and that soothes him. Good luck, and with regard to the whiskey on the gums, my folks did that a few times with my siblings and I, and there is not an alcoholic in the bunch. However, there was no Ora Gel available to my knowledge when my oldest brother was born. Home remedies were the order of the day. Anyway Ellen, just wanted you to know that someone else is going through the same thing you are, and I "feel your pain". I hope things resolve for poor soon, and for our Jonas too! Last night for a special treat I was awakened at 3 am to the sound which can only be the croup! (Sounds like you have an ailing animal in the house). So Jonas and I sat on the front porch with him all bundled up and me in my nightgown and shoes and coat holding him until his breathing improved. It was quite cold in Western PA last night! I am happy to report that after a difficult night of me not being able to sleep for worrying about him, he woke up today like last night never happened. Never a dull moment is there? Blessings to your family, Barb Martz Mom to Jonas 17 mo (MDS) & almost 7! Guest guest
Dear Ellen, Hi, I'm Amirah from M'sia. My daughter had her 1st tooth at 9mths and she was misreable. I gave her " Gripe Water " which can be bought at the s/market here. She had sleepless nites too but I didn't realise she was teething until I felt her gums. She's now 1yr. and her 3rd tooth is appearing but not randomly as my two boys. Normal kids do have late teething too. My neighbours' daughter started teething after 1. I guess all these depends on individual kids. I no expert by the way. Good luck and take care. Guest guest
Hi Everyone I only have but a minute but I wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful advise for - it's been a long long long week! The tooth finally broke skin last night- but we are still a very unhappy boy! The tylenol and ora-gel are helping- and the wet frozen clothes- but there's nothing better than being in mommy's arms (unfortunately they are about to fall off from all the cradling, rocking and cuddling) Not that I'm complaining because it's such a joy to rock him to sleep and know that I comforted him. His face is so peaceful at rest. But those dishes - and the dirty clothes are calling my name. Anyway- thank you all again- I do hope to catch up next week when things are calmer- Barb- I'm so happy to hear Jonas is better and his croup didnt last long! Blessings to all- Ellen Kugel
Guest guest
Thanks Ellen, Jonas is doing much better and is nearly over his most recent teething bout. I just realized that I put him to bed tonight and did not even use any Ora Gel on his gums. That is the first night in awhile he has been asleep and content without it. I am glad to hear that your dishes and laundry are in the same place mine are often in. Though the work will always keep being there, the baby won't be a baby forever. I have learned to relax about some of the dust bunnies that are all too often full grown rabbits by the time I get to them. Take care, Kisses to baby ! Lots of Love, Barb Martz Mom to Jonas 17 mo (MDS) & nearly 7 Re: Re: SOS 1st tooth Hi EveryoneI only have but a minute but I wanted to thank everyone for all the wonderful advise for - it's been a long long long week!
