Hi ,

So far I'm enjoying my recumbent bike - and I agree it is very hip and back friendly. I was hesitant to do it since i spend so much time sitting on my butt at work - felt I needed to be standing up to workout - but once a week it is a nice change up for me and I enjoy that I can look through my fitness magazines during the lower intensity parts of my ride!Donna

p.s. good luck w/ leg day!

Today I did 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, the most hip friendly of the cardio machines. Today I decided to be adventurous and instead of doing the weight loss or interval route, I chose "Cross Country" which ran the whole gambit of intensity. At it's lowest it was a 4, at it's highest it was a 19. It was fun to switch it up, and as usual it's was really the iPod that got me through the workout. I noticed a trainer with her client out on the floor, and it made me realize how much I prefer Noel to most trainers! She had her doing unweighted bridge lifts, arm and leg extensions in a table top - just stuff I would normally do in a really basic yoga routine. If I had paid good $ for that I personally would be pissed. I can't imagine that client was building a whole ton of muscle in the process..Tonite is my last leg day for this chunk of sessions. Bracing myself for the suckiness and the

pain of the Hack Squat, Perfect Squat, and Leg Press machines! Review forthcoming. of the Sweat Shop

Could it be that trainer's client was at a more begginer fitness level than you and those exercises were appropriate for her where she's at? I have had trainers not push me as hard as I want to be pushed but sometimes they need a little time to get to know how hard someone can and will go too so her money might have been well spent?

Enjoy your leg day!!

I would say the client was " average " .  If she's happy with that training then yay for her, I would be pissed though.  If I'm paying good $ to see a trainer I had better be pushed to my limits and a little beyond and I'd better be sore the next day.

Leg Day rocked. I'm going to miss the torture!  My last 2 workouts with him are upper body. L

Oh absolutely you wouldn't want that, but what I'm saying is maybe if the trainer was working with you she would have pushed you a lot harder (I hope so anyway) and was adjusting to the client's needs.

I'm glad leg day was a success! Enjoy the upper body workouts, will look forward to hearing about them!

I remember reading an article (or maybe watching an interview?) with Gwyneth

Paltrow where she said her trainer doesn't allow her to lift more than 3 pounds

or something like that, lest she become " too bulky. "

:(

That makes me go grrr and argh and turn all sorts of colors because come ON.

When I did my CLX rotation I didn't lose much weight but I got smaller, not

bigger. Tighter, if you will.

I mean, building muscle endurance is one thing, but you'd still have to increase

the intensity at some point, right? My 3 year old can lift 3 pound weights (and

does for fun sometimes, under mommy's careful supervision *g*).

So maybe the trainer is one of those types, who still believes that women gain

muscle like men do and that gaining too much muscle mass is something that

should be avoided?
