: I just spoke to Tyrus at Coastal and he is going to post you just the

information you need to justify why this fragile substance has to be pure,

concentrated, and handled by expert compounders and not just any pharmacy. Dr.

PLEASE!!!!

Dear Dr. McCandless,

I'm trying to get our insurance company to cover my son's B12 shots. They

will not cover them because we're getting them from Coastal Compounding instead

of one of their " approved " pharmacies. I plan on sending an appeal with an

explanation as to why it is IMPERATIVE that we use Coastal and not just rely on

one of their " approved " pharmacies for such an intricate Rx. You touch, in this

reply below, on what I think are some of the points I want to include in my

appeal (i.e. other pharmacies have no idea what they're doing, some giving out

multiple vials leading to overdoses, etc.) Can you please tell me if there are

any other important points that I can use in my appeal - I'm afraid if I simply

say that " most pharmacies have no idea what they're doing " that won't be a

specific enough argument.

We would really appreciate your help with this. Pretty much everything that

we do to help our son is denied by our insurance company. I was really hoping

that, for once, since the B12 shots are an Rx, we could at least get coverage

for these . . . and now they say " no " just because we're not using one of

" their " pharmacies - ACK!!!

Appreciatively,

Dr. McC - B12 shot location/opinion

Dr. McCandless,

I was wondering your opinion on b12 shot location and effectiveness.

I believe Dr. Neubrander feels it needs to be in the buttocks and

we've been giving it in the back of the arm. Also, on his site, he

was stating the importance of the pharmacy re mixture/quality of b12

shots. We always purchase from Coastal. Any opinions? Thank you,

Eileen

Hi

we use Hopewell Pharmacy for our MethB12 shots. Is there anyway we

could post the info that will increase our chances of their being

covered? Every little bit saved means more we can spend elsewhere to

help our kids!

fwiw, Maranie spoke with Mr.Isreal at the Lee Silby Pharm.booth at

the DAN and he said that he is getting most insurances to pay. He

looked at her card, and thought that it would.(BC/BS, with I think

PCS in the right hand corner) Part of it seems to be filing

on " their " form.(which they do) You might consider transferring your

RX there and giving it a try, or calling and asking about your

particular insurance.

Now, that said, I've had to take b-12 shots for years and it has

never been on the " formulary " as covered. Of course, it was not

compounded either...
