Guest guest
, The one thing probably most of us would recommend is to really increase probiotics. Also, you probably may want to try a good multi- strain product. A lot of us are using the Therbiotic Complete from Klaire now with good results (and they have several other products in the Therbiotic line too). Also Kirkman's has Probio gold and I've had some success with it. There are also several other gut-healthy things you can try. For example, this is what I give Jack for gut health on a daily basis. Enzymes with every meal. Aqua Flora first thing in the morning (yeast homeopathic, taste like water), nystatin, lauricidin (excellent overall gut health supp.), NAG (for constipation/colitis issues), Thorne's GIENCAP (when he needs a little extra gut support), then for probiotics in the am. he gets Primal Defense and sometimes I give Sacromyces Boulardii (it's a yeast, but non-colonizing), and I usually will give one culturelle or probiogold then too. In the afternoon I will give one of the following on a rotation every few days -- Biocidin+Nophenol, SF722, GSE+Nophenol, Olive leaf extract. If he seems really buggy, I will give one of those in the am before breakfast also(a good hour or more before I give probiotics -- my strategy w/ probiotics is to give them last thing before he leaves for school and last thing before he goes to bed). I give his vitamins and other supps right after he finishes breakfast and dinner (separate from gut stuff and probiotics). In the evening about an hour or so after dinner I give nystatin and lauricidin and then right before bed, he gets 1 or 2 Therbiotic complete, 1 or 2 culturelle, and 1 or 2 probiogold (I vary what he gets and how much depending on his bm's and behavior). Hope that helps some. We all have to strategize and figure out how to get the supps. in our kids in a way that works for them and their schedules. BTW, Jack has been on Nystatin for over a year and I'm getting ready to do a trial of dropping it since I have so much other stuff in place. Guest guest
Sharon, Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate the detail you gave - it really helped to explain things. Do you know if too much Probiotics can be toxic or cause a bad reaction? Or do we just slowly build-up and note behaviors/progress? Our DAN! doctor is great, but he's an allergist who follows the DAN protocol and has an overload of regular patients to treat. So I feel that we have to do all of the research and info that goes beyond the basic " give one culturelle a day " advice that we've been given. (But I'm not complaining - he's been a blessing). Have you noticed a positive change in your son since you started battling the yeast and bacteria? I know how bad I feel if I have an upset stomach, so I can only imagine how Noah feels having to deal with it 24/7. I think my biggest fear is that I'm going to give too much of something. For ex: we have some homeopathic yeast drops (Kids Wellness Candida drops), but I've been nervous to give them at the same time that we're giving Diflucan. I read about the AquaFlora and TherBiotic Complete in the archives and will try to check out more info on them today. I'm really eager to get Noah's yeast and bacteria under control. It makes me sick that Noah started GFCF and ABA at 19 months, but that we're only just now starting complete biomedical intervention. Thanks again for your help - and for posting what your son takes. That really helped a lot. Best wishes,
Guest guest
, I've been there where you are and had lots of help from the lists. I really appreciate all of the help others have given me. Sharon > Do you know if too much Probiotics can be toxic or cause a bad > reaction? Or do we just slowly build-up and note behaviors/progress I think with everything, you build up and only start one new thing at a time to make sure tolerance is okay. That said, Since you know you child tolerates culturelle (or if you think so since that's what your using), you can probably give two (and even give it more than once a day). It's all so individual, one of those things that mom judgement has to call. > Have you noticed a positive change in your son since you started > battling the yeast and bacteria? Yes, when Jack is having more normal bm's his overall health is better and he is much more calm and organized. Jack's cheeks get pink/red and bumpy when gut bugs are flaring or if he's had a reaction to something(it's an immune response)He has done very well with the gut treatments, but it's one of those things we have to stay on top of constantly to keep him on the right track. We had him scoped last August and he does have colitis throughout and LNH of the ileum. We *may* do a trial of Azulfidine based on Dr. Krigsman's recommendations (he got very loopy after 4 days of Asacol, so we stopped that one). > I think my biggest fear is that I'm going to give too much of > something. The main thing to do is to really ramp up the probiotics during Diflucan (otherwise clostridia will get worse) and then keep at a higher dose for a while after done with the meds. This also applies for the flagyl. This was great advice gram gave me....
Guest guest
Sharon, thanks again for the info! It couldn't have come at a better time. A friend of mine called last night and couldn't understand why after 7 weeks of Diflucan, her son's yeast was down (still high, but down), but he suddenly had a bacteria problem on his recent OATS test. Before Diflucan, he had no bacteria at all. Your email just solved the puzzle! It is a shame that Diflucan helps with yeast, but stirs up bacteria. And that Flagyl helps with bacteria, but causes yeast. Geez! Talk about going in a circle. Will definitely start to slowly increase my son's dose of Culterelle and will look into new probiotics, as well. Thanks again! :-) Mom to Noah Partha, 29 months
