Guest guest
My boys are notorious for bouts with diarrhea. The last time Aidan had baboon butt, our pediatrician said it was yeast (shocking admission from a traditional MD:-)) and recommended rotating the following: 1. Lotrimin AF foot cream 2. Dr. 's Diaper Cream (sold behind the counter at Walgreens)/ Diaper Doo for a barrier We have also used prescription bactriban cream and a paste of Gold Bond Medicated Baby Powder and Destin for a barrier. Sitting in the bath can help the child's bottom feel better. Good luck! I feel for you & your son:-). Take Care, diarrhea again and more! Hi.. I need advice please. My 2 year old went down for nap this afternoon with clean diaper and no rash. Two hours later he awoke screaming and his bottom was bright red and the worst diarrhea I've seen in months.... Took care of that and used ointments... tonight another terrible diaper and now he is bleeding-his skin is so raw-all in about 5 hours. Previously this has meant yeast and I have used Nystatin ointment and also Zinc Oxide, Balmex... a little of everything. He is on Diflycan and probiotics btw. Any idea what would suddenly cause this with no diet change or supplement change? He is miserable and nothing I am using seems to help. In the past when it was definitely yeast, the Nystatin ointment worked really fast but is not seeming to do that this time. Any thoughts? And sorry I've brought up the popular topic of diarrhea again. There is a stomach virus going around but he seems to feel fine. Thanks! Guest guest
, I really don't know, but in your shoes I think I'd give charcoal (away from food) to help absorb the acids(? I assume) in the diarrhea. More of a bandaid than a solution, but it might buy him some relief until his digestion settles down. Good luck - it's horrible not knowing WHY when our kids slipbackwards, don't you think? Abbie diarrhea again and more! Hi.. I need advice please. Guest guest
Thanks Abbie.. I've never used Charcoal before. How much do you use for a little guy.. he is 25 lbs and 2 years old.. do you put it in food? Is there any contraindications to using it that I might need to know? We are on quite a few supplements. Thanks.. I'll see if I can find some tomorrow. > , > > I really don't know, but in your shoes I think I'd give charcoal (away from food) to help absorb the acids(? I assume) in the diarrhea. Guest guest
Abbie.. I meant to say ARE there any contraindications I need to know?! It's been a LONG day and I don't need to be writing back I guess at this hour! And yes.. it is so frustrating not to know what causes these things specifically. Thanks for your help! > > , > > > > I really don't know, but in your shoes I think I'd give charcoal > (away from food) to help absorb the acids(? I assume) in the > diarrhea. Guest guest
No, don't put it in food if you can help it. It binds with what it comes in contact with and " sops it up " ( my unprofessional understanding), which is why it's also used in cases of poisoning. I doubt the food itself is the culprit, unless you suspect food poisoning. We gave it with food by mistake and had the most amazing big, black messy dumps of poo! I'd definitely give it away from supplements, since it will absorb them, too. I've crushed them and given them in water in a big spoon. I don't believe you can go wrong with 1-2 tabs between meals, maybe 2-3x in the day, but of course I'm no doctor. My understanding is that it's a benign substance without particular biochemical/pharmaceutical action other than to absorb and neutralize, but perhaps others will pitch in. diarrhea again and more! > > > Hi.. Guest guest
Gosh thanks Abbie.. my Veterinarian friend used it on my dogs when they got poisoned once but that is my only experience with it! Thanks again.. I'll see if I can find any around here on Sunday if he wakes up the same way tomorrow (today!). Blessings! > > , > > > > I really don't know, but in your shoes I think I'd give charcoal > (away from food) to help absorb the acids(? I assume) in the > diarrhea. I have heard that virgin coconut oil can be very soothing and healing. > Any idea what would suddenly cause this with no diet change or > supplement change? Are you keeping a journal (sorry if I've asked you this before)? Sometimes it can be a food that is now being eaten in great quantity (or on consecutive days) that the child cannot tolerate. If you can look back over several days in the journal, it can make it a lot easier to identify a culprit. > There is a stomach virus going around but he seems to feel fine. One time that my kids got the stomach flu, it was strictly just a GI-specific problem. They didn't seem sick either. If my daughter hadn't gotten it first, I would have thought it was food or a supp in my son's case. If your son recovers quickly, then I might be inclined to think he might just have gotten a little bug. Lynne
Guest guest
Thanks Lynne.. we are using the coconut oil and there were not any changes in diet or anything else.. except we stopped the squash but have done that before with no effect due to trying to find out if it would help the " yellow " tint he has had in recent days. This is all such a puzzle for all of us I know. Just drives me NUTS! Just when things are going better, there is always some glitch! AARRGGHH!!! I am ready for him to be RECOVERED!!! Aren't we all. :)Thanks for your concern and note on a week-end. Blessings to everyone! > > Hi.. I need advice please.
