When you using Risperdal with a child with seizures I would keep a close eye on the seizures. Also, yes Risperdal can cause the child to be sedated. Each child reacts differently. Yes, he may seem different at school then at home. At home he will be engaging in activity that may stimulate him more and work through the sedation. Sitting at a table/desk at school focusing on academic work may be boring for him, thus the sedation will have more of an effect.Bill> > >> > > Hello everyone. OK, I have a question for you all. Guest guest
Thanks e for saying that!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT&TDate: Tue, 11 Nov 2008 07:05:00 -0800 (PST)To: <AutismBehaviorProblems >Subject: Re: Question Stacie...maybe this is just me...but I would never allow any school to be able to call my child's doctor to ask questions they need to be asking me. In my humble opinion I would put a stop to that by taking that privilege away. You are his mom, and you do a great job on your own. Just my two cents. I'm so sad you are having these issues. OK, I have a question for you all. How would you feel if your child who has Autism and a seizure disorder was put on meds and then those meds were increased. Then, your child starts to have different behaviors at school like not participating, being noncompliant, defiant and just not finding the pleasure that he once found in school and was very tired all the time and lethargic and practically tripping over his feet, and having trouble staying awake. And so, the teacher asked tells you about it, and you say you will call the dr and you do, and the dr says it would not be the risperdal doing this at all. So, you tell the teacher. You then tell the teacher 2 other times when this is brought up that you will call the dr and you do and tell the teacher 2 other times that the Nurse and you talked and she talked to the dr and the dr said this would not be doing that to the child. Then, you get a call from the nurse at the neuro office that just talked to his teacher and asked her the same question about the meds and told her the same things about the behavior difference? What would you think? How would you feel? Is this right or wrong? This happened to me tonight and I did sign a thing saying that info on s health, meds etc can be released and all, so it is not like she could not call because i have given the school my permission, but still! And there is more that happened on Friday that I am feeling uncomfortable about, but I will share that later. Guest guest
I would be really upset if I were you too! Even though you signed the form, I don't think the school should have called the doctor since you had already done so and reported back to them! I am sure that would leave you feeling violated. My son is on Keppra for his seizures and I know in the beginning when he first started taking it he was very aggressive. The neuro doctor told me to give him 50mg of B6 a day and after about a week that really helped. I found it helped with his focus too. I don't know if that is just for Keppra or other seizure meds too. My son also had trouble at school the week of halloween. He actually had a seizure at school the day before halloween and I had to go get him. I personally think the routine at school was more hectic than usual. I don't know if that would affect your son too. I hope this helps in some way.

Guest guest
Hi Stacie,I withdrew, refused to sign medical info, consent for sharing medical files for my son at school. The school got pretty mad at me. You can ask to withdraw signed forms as it pertains to your child. If your child has medicine needs at school or medical crisis needs specific to him there is a form for that. I think its called a student, individual medical plan. Its a needs specific form and not a general medical info sharing form. You can fill it out and have s Dr. sign if needed or give instructions for things like what to do for seizures ect. on how the staff should respond without giving your complete medical sharing approval. The school can also share info through second parties like counselors and pyschiatrists who have been signed into info sharing. Ask to review s whole file and forms. Withdraw all the ones involving parties you do not want privy to sharing info. The child protection agencies can work with the schools without your knowledge and interview your child. Their is no form to eliminate that. The school has mandatory reporting laws and is required to report anything that raises concerns with your child. You can still withdraw all other forms or simply refuse to sign any new forms for sharing info. Ask for a copy of s file. The privacy laws for medical, health still apply for the school. Hope your relationship with the school and your family gets better soon! Best wishes, Tishanne > > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Yep it is screaming that to me for sure especially with all other things that have taken place! His Dr that I am talking about is a pedriatric neuro and she is wonderful! She sees two of my kids! I am going to call and leave a message for s primary too so I can see what he says! I seen him last night when we were working out and told him I got the report from Little Friends and I said I am sure you want a copy for s file and he said absolutely! I did not want to ask him anything more because we were there to work out! He has a weight loss clinic I am in that started in dec and I love it and got my sister in and my friend! We meet every 3 weeks to have our meeting, get weighed, measured and have our individual apt with him! Then we got.a grant to the healthplex and on our weeks we do not have the meeting we have group workout! Very cool!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT&TDate: Mon, 10 Nov 2008 19:45:10 -0800 (PST)To: <AutismBehaviorProblems >Subject: Re: Question Sometimes Dr's really make me wonder. I personally would ask for a secondopinion. Every doctor is different and have different opinions/knowlege of meds etc.I personally have read so many posts on different yahoo groups of kids doing realwell on risperdal and others doing very badly and still others spacing out etc etc..the listgoes on. Is this doctor a neurologist or MD? I would be asking for a refferal to a neurologistwho specializes in ASD kiddos ( sorry just assuming here your son is on the spectrum? )if not same thing anyways. Hope you find some good answers. Sometimes also you just have to go with your Mommy instincts...this would be screaming " somethings is off here " to me : ) 38 and Mom to threeTasha 23..new Mommy ( means I am a Grammy )Casey-Mae 13..sweet as pieElijah 2.. I was going to post it today and just did not get around to it and I am so tired of thinking about it now, that I am going to wait for a bit.Stacie AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs.
