Guest guest
My 11 year old daughter has had OCD since age 4, has successfully completed ERP twice and now is refusing to address her OCD, even though symptoms are creeping back at an ever increasing rate. (She has primarily contamination issues) She refuses to go see her psych, altho I have received advice from him to basically just back off at this point and to try let her make her own decision - that once the OCD becomes so bad for her, she may be more motivated on her own to want to address it. We are trying very hard not to enable her rituals/or help her with her avoidance. However, we have a particular issue in that she refuses to brush her teeth (because the toothbrush, etc is contaminated and she has elaborate hand washing rituals once she does this). So we have a battle every night. I can see that it's very hard for her - I don't want to brush her teeth for her because I feel like I'm " helping " the OCD - yet I don't want her teeth to get rotten while we're trying to deal with all this. Meanwhile, I can't help but feel so angry that she won't do what she needs to do to help get this under control. Any advice would be be appreciated. Thanks.
