HI,

I think it all depend on the degree of the problem and how much you need the

medicine to function. I don't think that people with pain normally have

much of a response from pain meds others than having them help with pain.

Same thing with anxiety meds, not doing a lot other than help with anxiety

if the people that take them need them.

I have pain and I have anxiety, and neither the opoiods or the tranquilizers

really cause me to be out of it or anything, unless I am trying to take

enough to help me sleep, then I am normally just able to sleep or I am

miserable.

I am certin that I function better and drive more safely on my medications

than without.

I hope I can drive well and safely with all I'm taking because I go more

than 100 mph, and I'm hopefully going to do it again this weekend. The

problem so far is that something would come up to stop me from going. Now,

if my hips don't get better enough, I won't be going this weekend, either.

Bummer :(

Dennis,.....Hope you feel better so you can run a few laps. Are you

getting in storms your way? We've been having lots of storms, rain,

and even a few tornado's, but again, were in OK. Take care, and my

prayers are with you, and your family, Tawny

Yes, Ma'am, I am driving a 1966 Ford Ranchero on the drag strip. It gets

there in about 13 1/2 seconds at up to 110 mph.I haven't put much money in

it. I had almost everything to get it running as a 6 cylinder, but pulled

that tired engine out and put in the V8 I built in about 1975 when I still

had a good body. It's not hard to work on, so it keeps me flexible,

energetic sometimes, and gives me goals to reach for. I look at it as

therapy more than anything, but I can enter it in parades, car shows, cruise

nights, etc, and meet new people. What more can I ask for?

No, Tawny, where I live, the storms come through the Dallas area, straight

at us, but it almost always weakens within a 10-15 mile area with us in the

middle. We don't get any bad weather most of the time, except for lightning

storms, and the really bad stuff goes to the south of us or stays north of

us. Here again, we're blessed.

I am glad to see that you are back with us. I hadn't replied with a welcome,

but it was in my heart anyhow. I hope things get better for you.

Normally, I don't need a detector because I won't street race, I follow the

rules and do my racing at the track. I have to admit, but I do some testing

on a straight empty part of the highway, but never more than 80 mph. Then I

shut it down to the speed limit.

It's a real adrenaline rush, isn't it, Dennis? I was able to get my baby up

t 120 on the back straight at Watkins Glen - the real fun is when you get to

that 40mph turn at the end of the straight . . . God, I miss it. My knee

can't handle the clutch, so I thought maybe I'd give in and get an

automatic, but my neck and shoulders can't handle the weight of the helmet,

and my back can't handle sitting in the car. Someday, maybe . . . I'm not

totally giving up yet.

Dennis, I just figured you had to be a racer! I knew a man in Clovis NM who had

RA who did something similar to you with cars. He also was disabled with RA

too. I got to know him because a driver (UPS) was rude to him and I happend to

be a UPS supervisor. Another story of people thinking we are fine when we can't

lift that 50 lb box like any other person....

I've got a fussy grandbaby in my arms - so I can't chat like I want LOL

Dennis, where do you race? I grew up in a dirt track racing family.

I spent a lot of time at Devil's Bowl speedway in dallas/mesquite,

and other area tracks. None of the guys ever got into door-slammers,

just 1/4 mile oval. I used to have a z-28 with an L-88 engine in it.

I was the only mom in our neighborhood to be threatened with a noise

violation ticket (ZZ Topp Fandango.) Go Dennis!

In the 60's, I helped as pit crew for an asphalt round track car, and every

Sunday had to replace the right front suspension from his hitting the wall.

I never did have much of a love of round racing. I ran mostly at San

Dragway in the 60's and ran at the Great Lakes Dragway near Chicago. Since

moving back to TX after my military days, I started running at the

Hallsville Drag Strip until it shut down, and practicing at the I-20 Raceway

until it, too, closed. Now I'll have to go to Rusk, which is below Tyler,

Cedar Creek near Gunbarrel City, Paris Drag Strip, or Red River Raceway in

Gilliam LA, just north of Shreveport.

It's a long way to travel, but I made a promise to a man a number of years

ago, but haven't been able to fulfill it because of problems at home, so I'm

going to do it this weekend if at all possible. I don't like passing on my

word, so I've got to do it!

My oldest daughter lives in Gunbarrel City, and my youngest used to

do Young Life in Hallsville, she goes to school in Marshall. Good

Wow, I thought it would be as simple as doing a google search for " Illinois DMV

Hand Controls " . It's easier to get price quotes from GEICO or Progressive than

it is to find informtion.

I live in California, so I did a google search for " California DMV Hand

Controls " and got an almost identical site, with the same ads from GEICO and

Progressive. Different rules, but still no info on hand controls.

Interesting.

MY SON IS 19 AND HAS A DRIVERS LICENCE. HE THINKS HE IS PREPARED, BUT WE STILL THINK HE NEEDS TO PRACTICE A LONG LONG TIME BEFORE WE GIVE HIM THE CAR SO HE DRIVES ALONE. I HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT DRIVING, EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON, UNTIL HE LOST HIS DRIVERS LICENCE, WHICH WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. CONVENIENTLY I CANNOT FIND THE PAPERS SO THAT HE CAN GO AND REPLACE IT. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

I know I have commented that my 18 yo finally got his driver’s license in December after having a permit and numerous driving lessons from the age of 15½. I had refused to ride with him even though my ex-husband kept telling me he is a good driver (my excuse being my nerves can’t handle it after already doing this with his much older sister and brother). Well, yesterday he was at my house and we needed to run to the store to get my step-daughter a birthday card. After much coaxing he convinced me to ride with him. I was very pleasantly surprised! He is a pretty good driver – my only comments to him were to slow down a couple of times and that he needed to have more consistent pressure on the gas pedal for a smoother, less jerky ride. Later, I even let him drive us to meet my husband for dinner.

My son is 18 and has a driving permit too. I have just started taking him driving every day. We were both nervous at first, I still am, lol, but he is doing very well. He keeps asking me if he is ready to drive on his own, he is not, but I'm hoping one day he will be able to. I think it is going to take a longer than he hopes. I'm happy that he has the will to want to get his license. I want him to be responsible as much as possible. Just going to take a little longer than people he knows. pj

Sounds like you did not have a good experience

with a driving school, Patti. Fortunately, our experiences were totally

different. We live in Sugar Land which is near Houston

and Tyler took

lessons several times from a driving school here. They were very good

with him and, in fact, when he took additional lessons they tried to place him

with the same instructor for consistency.

My son received his learning permit through a driving

school, cost us around $268, but they expected him to already know how to drive

and he didn't, I mean that's why we were paying them. lol

They took him driving eight times and then said we would have to do the rest,

they didn't have time. I don't know if anyone else had this

experience, just thought I'd warn ya. I guess it made it easier for

him to get his permit, but other than that it just didn't seem worth the

money. pj
