Guest guest
Andy, My suggestion is to take your AFOs back to your orthotist and be assertive. Or find a new orthotist, one who listens, examines, watches you walk, know biomechanics, measures, etc. Something isn't not right if you have 3 pair of AFOs that you can't use. Don't get pre- fabricated ones. You need AFOs specific for YOUR feet and legs. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Andy, I used to have Toe-Off which is similar. The problem is, they are not sturdy enough and broke at the ankle, just like my current custom braces did! Toe-Off was great at first, but then it seemed to have lost the integrity of the brace. Guest guest
Andy, Tt was my experience that the walk on was terrible. I broke 2 within a couple of months. I went back to traditional plastic ones. The only difference it made in my gate, was to make it more stiff. They are really stiff AFOs....sorry to be so negative, but that was my experience. Guest guest
I agree with Gretchen DONT get prefabbed ones...MAKE you orthotist help you, or find a new one.....they need to be made for you specifically, cause even most peoples own two feet are different. Guest guest
Thanks Gretchen and you are absolutely right I need to be more aggressive when it comes to my health and treatment. They are very nice where I go and watch me walk but they will let me leave with braces that apaprently don't work. Even the person who made my brace wanted me to put my old ones back on so I don't fall. If I can not walk off with them on they are no good for me and they should not let me leave at all. This is the flip side with our discussion on what makes a good doctor. They are very nice, encouraging and took the time to listen but could not treat me. I went to this place because according to them they are the most experienced orthotic specialist for CMT in the state so I went there. I don't know what else to do if I am aggressive but nothing can be done. I am wondering if this is the best it gets and my old braces were the best made for me. I continue to struggle with CMT and continue to have no good experiences with any doctors I have seen for CMT. I actually was excited on these doctors because they were so optimistic. Thanks for listening. Andy

Guest guest
Andy, please do a search of this site for AFO and brand names even for my name. I have posted about my experience. I have had my Toe Offs since April and my back and energy has improved exponentially!!!! However I have broken mine just after 4 months and my AFO guy has ordered me replacement under warranty. I even posted the instructions from manufacturer. Anyway if you break the AFO again they say you need a different type? Good luck Kim
