Guest guest
Good evening all, I decided to take someone's suggestion and offer my excess kefir grains on our local freecycle site. The little guys are taking over my house, even demanding the car keys for a night out this evening. I've already rec'd a number of requests for them, but that's not the good part. I posted less than an hour and a half ago and up to this minute I've rec'd 21 emails asking what kefir grains are. What an opportunity!!!!! Several people thought they were plants and wanted to know if they'd grow in the shade? or if they needed a lot of fertilizer.... One thought they were something for poliching shoes (????) Several wrote and asked what type of milk I used them in, etc. I sent all these people a short little explanantion that they were not plants and not vines and not shoe polish (???) and referred them to Dom's site. A handful wrote back and I've referred them on to WAPF and realmilk. WOW! I am *exhausted* {grin} after fielding that many questions about kefir this evening. I think I need a tall cool glass of it myself!! Educating the masses is hard work!! ) The teacher in me can never be squelched!!! Viva la profesor!! Wren doing my part to educate the masses. from texas/raw milk not allowed, but what they don't know won't hurt them! heh heh
Guest guest
Wren, I posted on our Freecycle this afternoon and have only gotten one response on the kefir grains. I also referred them to Dom's site and told them to email me tomorrow to get some to them. Question? How do you disclose (or do you?) that they've been cultured in raw milk? I'm thinking that if the question comes up I would 1. Refer them to the WAPF website or 2. let them know that I buy the milk directly from the farmer and just see where that goes. (Raw Milk is legal here in Oregon, but in rather short supply) Also I posted Kombucha SCOBYs and so far have gotten 2 responses of " What's that? " - one from the person asking about the kefir grains. Here again I'm refering them (by email) to the link on the Kefir_Making group about Kombucha and doing a copy and paste of the cliff notes version. I also posted a request for 1 gallon glass jars with lids. That's what we use for picking up our raw milk. So even though I've got about a half dozen, you never know when one might break. Or maybe I'll need extra when my brother gets settled into his new home and is ready to delve into the raw milk. I'll have to have him and my sister in law over for some of that chocolate ice cream made with the Hershey's syrup - he's a chocoholic. That's all it will take! Rhonda Being glad that you aren't being run outta house and home from all those runaway grains! > Good evening all, > > I decided to take someone's suggestion and offer my excess kefir > grains on our local freecycle site.
