Guest guest
a, Have you got acrobat reader installed? If not, then you won't be able to fill in the sheet. You can download it free under where the link for the infoo sheet is

Guest guest
Dear April, By now you have probably had a chance to look up some of the information on the internet that folks here have directed you to.... Everyone here has experience either as a patient or a caregiver for someone with serious liver disease. There is a great deal of information available, both from the people on this site and from all the medical sites on the web. But no one can predict exactly what will happen. Kjersten, my wife, was diagnosed with cirrhosis and " end stage liver disease " in January 2004. One of our doctors told us that while cirrhosis " always means a lessening of life expectency, " he also said that he had seen patients with " more lives than a cat. " As Kjersten would say, " Cut to the chase! " Seventeen months after her diagnosis, she passed away (June 3, 2005). During almost all of that time, she was in " apparent " good health. It was not until March 2005 that she began to look and act as if she were ill. Of course, she took a lot of prescriptions...lasex and enulose being the main ones...but while I could tell she was not her " usual " self, no one else, including close friends and family, suspected anything. I would tell you, frankly, that while you should hope and work towards the best, you should also plan for the worst. You need to be sure that all the legal matters are in place. Sometimes people resist this (my Dad is a good/bad example). You should have a durable power of attorney (durable means that it is in force even if he is not awake....i.e., able to revoke the power of attorney). Since cirrhosis patients often fall into a coma before death, it is important to have a " durable " power of attorney. You also need to have a " health care surregate " form signed and notarized. This is often part of a form that gives you the power to make health care decisions...but goes beyond death. You also need to make sure you have a will. I know that all of this is depressing. No one really wants to think about their death, let alone the death of some one they love. But you and your husband must realize that it is an act of love to do this. I don't know where you live (I'm in Vero Beach, Florida), but you can probably get all this legal work done by an attorney for about $150. It's a bargain....believe me! As to what you can expect....for the first year after her diagnosis, Kjersten was in apparent good health...it was only after a full year that I began to see her overtaken by fatigue frequently. And then, in the last six months of her life, she began to seriously retain fluid and we had many paracentises ... a drawing off of fluid from her abdomen..... She died waiting for her last paracentesis...neither of us expected her death. You should read my last post... you will never regret telling your husband " I love you. " You will never regret holding him in your arms on the sofa...you will never regret loving him. Write to me directly if you wish.... dhtaylor4@... Guest guest
Here is a site which gives information about faster transplants preformed in other countries. Shorter waiting list goes together with a paid service. www.Liver4you.org > > MY HUSBAND WAS JUST TOLD HE WAS IN ADVANCE STAGE 4 OF CIRRHOSIS.I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE STAGES.
