Guest guest
Hi,I had to restrain my son today because of self injury behavior. It started first thing this morning. I awoke because he threw the dog on me right below the naval, ouch!while I was dozing on the couch. My husband seen but words couldnt stop him in time. After 2 hrs of head banging everything he banged harder. I decided to pin him safe. I used a blanket to wrap him in. My daughter had to help me. He wouldnt stop head banging, kicking and pounding on everything. He was also spitting on me and everything else. He nearly broke our sliding glass door by pounding his head on it. He tried to bite me and bit the blanket instead. He pinched and dug me. I had to pry his fingers open to free myself. We had to hold him down on the floor and let him spit, scream and shout strange word sounds and curse words. He had blinking spells, also swallowing gesture spells off and on all day. When he was calm we went in the canoe to paddle, drift at the shore line. I tied the canoe with rope to the shoreline because I was worried about boating or boating alone with him further then 10 ft from shore should he have a fit, rage spell. I was afraid he might throw the paddle or hit me with it or..if we actually went out boating. Afterwards we skipped stones across the water. He had forgot how to do this and started to get very emotional. He seemed to enjoy this canoe time, shore time together and finally relax. Later indoors he went right back to self injury, head banging behaviors and extreme aggitation if I tried to redirect or stop him. It made it worse. He kicked, hit everything and me,kept spitting and cursing ect...I forwarned, used 1-10 count and I took away a few of his things after I told him I would, if he did not stop trying to damage walls, windows and ceiling with a bar stool he picked up after I stopped him from head banging. He kept loosing his words and shouting sounds or swear words. Its driving me crazy with stress and our family. How do you keep your self injury children safe? Do any wear helmets or???. Do they get mad if you stop them from head banging? The other day he held a fork pressed into the white of his eye. It was hard to make him put it down. I was afraid to grab his arm in case he reflexed and drove the fork in. He does not seem to understand or be aware of what pain is or of feeling pain. Whats a mom to do?
