Guest guest
Hi Melony- Forgive me, but I forget if your child is a PANDAS child? If so, I would certainly contact your pediatrician's office and inform them of the strep exposure. Prophylactic antibiotics can be given to prevent infection. (Even tho' Anne is not a PANDAS child, I have requested antibiotics in just such a situation). I'd especially do it today with the New Year's holiday hours approaching. Blessings to you. So good to hear that things are going better- (Ohio)
Guest guest
Melony How about calling your psych MD and have him perscribe antibiotics or call the pedi who clearly needs education. Keeping my fingers crossed. Lori
Guest guest
Hi , Not sure if it is PANDAS or not even though it was a very sudden onset. I did call my ped just a few minutes ago and he said unless she is running a fever he isn't going to prescribe an antibiotic. " sigh' He said if she starts to run a fever call and he will see her to determine if it is strep or not. Sooo... I have increased her vit c and water intake and am praying that she won't get it, or any symptoms of OCD waxing because of it being in her bloodstream without having physical sickness. Sometimes I really understand the phrase " doctor's practice " .. Melony -- Re: strep throat exposure Hi Melony- Forgive me, but I forget if your child is a PANDAS child? Guest guest
Hi again, Melony- Does your ped know about the possible relationship between strep and OCD? I never like to be a pain, but I think kids with OCD need all the possible protection they can get. The argument that using antibiotics 'too much' is bad practice doesn't, IMO, count when we're talking about possibly preventing an exacerbation of OCD sx's. Just my 2 cents. Sorry, I didn't mean to vent, but it bothers me that some docs practice 'by the book' and not 'by the patient'. (...and I'm in the medical profession...) Blessings- (Ohio)
Guest guest
, Yes, I mentioned the relationship and wanting to protect from having excerbated symptoms, explained that though we aren't sure if she is a PANDAS kid, I thought it might be best just in case. He said " well we'll take care of it if she develops a fever " I don't know if you remember this but this doc said she just had neurosis and prescribed some valium to calm her down back when I consulted him about her symptoms.. when that didn't help he referred me to a very anti-christian psychiatrist and fussed at me when I asked him about it, saying that it didn't matter if he is christian or not, that I sounded like the people back in ww2 that didn't want to do business with a Jew, or like in the 40's with a colored person... I don't have a problem with him not being a Christian, but I don't want him telling me my child's problems are " because " I am a Christian!! Now, I know everyone here may not be a Christian but the care I get for my child I want to be at least considerate of our beliefs, ya know?! I know I should find another ped, I just wrestle with it cause we have been to this same one for 13 years and I don't like change...lol... He was an awesome ped in his day but I think that he is just set in his ways now. The more I call for different things the more I feel I should change peds... it's just taking that step and then having to find someone else I am personally comfortable with as well as trusting my child's best interest to them as well as the hassle of changing it all through insurance. ugggghhhh. Guest guest
Xylotol- found as a sugar substitute in Trident gum (also can be purchased as a sugar substite) has shown some effectiveness in preventing strep. (My DS15 has PANDAS) > > > Hi, I just found out that my dd was exposed to strep.. my friend and her family were over on Friday for dinner and yesterday she called and said that 3 of her children went to the doc and they have strep throat. One of the children started running a fever while here friday and she took him to the doc on saturday then the other three got fevers yesterday. Any preventitive measure I can take?? The OCD symptoms have been so much better, I don't want this to throw her over the edge again by getting strep... uggghhh.. help!!
