Guest guest
Good morning, Listmates! I haven't turned in my child's samples yet. For the life of me, I couldn't get him to spit -- no matter how much energy, excitement and enthusiam (Son-Rise) I used. Discouraged, I put off trying for awhile. After reading Dr. M's post, I decided to try yet again. I read the instructions which give a timeline to get the saliva sample. This morning MJ woke up in a bad mood. He said he didn't sleep well because it was very windy last night. Anyway, prior to brushing his teeth before school, I got two glasses and suggested we play a spitting game. Of course, he refused to play, closing his eyes and turning his head away. MJ loves Scooby Doo and Shaggy. So as a last resort, I pretended to be Scooby Doo and in a Scooby-like voice asked " Shaggy " to play the spitting game (I was panting, licking, etc.) Well, I'll be darned if this didn't work! I got nearly 1ml (after three tries). MJ is competitive at the games he plays. While eating breakfast I challenged him to another spitting game after school (for the 4pm sample) , the " Mom " vs. the " son. " I asked my " audience, " who do you think will win? MJ yells, I'll win. I'll win the spitting game! I'm learning firsthand I must try harder to find a way to use his love or obsessions to motivate him to participate more. It just may work! Question: What is the very least amount ml's of saliva we can submit for testing? Also, should we freeze the saliva if it takes a couple of days to collect or just keep the test tube in the frig? Thanks, Wanda
