Guest guest
I would like to say first off thank you all so much for responding to me so quickly. I know you all know how I'm feeling and what my situation is. Today has been abit of a rough day around here. My mother was told today she had to go on a leave of absence from work. This upset her greatly. She has her masters degree in nursing and is a clinical manager for a home health company. See my mom knows what the in-and-outs of this disease are. I'm just learning, I don't won't to hound every second of the day asking, mom do you feel ok, have you used the bathroom (she's on lactulose) she feels like a two year old and I don't want to disrespect her in anyway or make her feel embarassed for being abit confused. She isn't confused now, and now that her bowel movements are regular she hasn't been in several months. I feel and her labs support that what she is doing now as in her laxative, milk thistle and her daily vitamins, seem to be helping with her symptoms. Can cirrhosis be haulted, I know not cured but can it be treated as to have it maintain the stage it's in? Her doctor said that as well as she's doing now that if she were to be put on a transplant list she would be so far at the bottom it would be the same as not even being on it. Again thank you for helping me. Pam

Yes, cirrhosis can be halted by eliminating anything that is currently destroying liver cells. That includes getting rid of the hep c virus and never ever drinking alcohol. Is your mom signed up for the hep c treatment? My doctors have stressed to me that cirrhosis is not a death sentence. If we can eliminate everything that's causing the damage we can have a normal lifespan, so it's important to try to kill the virus. I'm glad that the lactolose is controlling her encephalothopy (confusion). Sounds like she's pretty well informed and is doing what she needs to do. Any time you have questions we're here for you.
