Stacie,

I heard an indepth discussion on this last weekend on NPR. The doctor stated that fish oil was safe for children however, he warned that some brands contain mercury based on the lack of purification of the fish oil.

I think he mentioned a brand "Nordic Something or another" but being 46 I can't remember anything past two hours ago - smiles!!!!!

I think I seen somewhere that giving fish oil to children with Autism could help them? Is this true and can it be given to young kids? My son is 5! Thanks!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT & T

Nordic naturals is the only oil that my OBGYN would allow me to take when pregnant. I have preterm labor and fish oil is supposed to help. He independly tested a wide variety of fish oils and the nordic naturals where the only one that contained no mercury or extremely small traces. The doctor only worked with preterm patients so fish oil was part of his standard practice so he had to make sure that it was pure or have a chance of getting sued.

Nordic narurals has their cod liver oil indipendantly tested by different labs

for purity. Many company's test their products themselves. Also Nordic

Naturals contains vitamin A and D sourced from the fish themsleves, not added in.

Fish in the Arctic have these vitamins naturally. That is why they dont give an exact

amount or either vitamin A or D but an approximate. Any CLO that gives an

exact amount is adding these vitamins to their product. Krill oil is also becoming

popular as a source of EFA's as they naturally contain very little contaminants.

The bigger the fish the bigger the exposure. Thats why tuna is limited during pregancies.Shellfish is another one that is easily contaminated due to their way of filtering to eat.

Stacie, I would also make sure if your child is allergic, that the ingredients in the CLO do not contain something that your child shouldn't have, such as soy, etc.
