Guest guest
EMLA now comes in a prescription-only generic form: It is 2-1/2% of lidocaine and 2-1/2% of prilocaine, and only comes in a 30gm tube, enough to last for years. You must apply it one hour before venipuncture and cover it with a non-occlusive dressing. I always advise putting it on both ante-cubital fossae (inner elbows) in case they don't make it on the first stick (horrors!).
