Wow. I know that GOD does not put more on us than we can bare. And it will all work out.I just wanted to let u know that. My son 6 yrs old is verbal, potty train, just lacks social skills, a very strong developmental delay. I haven't had the screaming. I did have the poop but I didn't know he had autism then! I just kept working with him! Didn't give up. /GOD bless you and your family because you have a lot on your plate. Hi My name is Helen, and I am the mother of 3 autistic children. Cal & Ben are 10 year old twins and Billie is a 9 year old girl. My problem is Cal constantly goes around naked with a poopy behind, or a tail as my husband refers to it as. About 2 years ago for about 6 months he took himself to the toilet but for most of his life he's gone around with a tail. It doesn't matter how long you put him on the toilet for he won't do it on the toilet, except when he's got diahrrea and then he goes on his own. We end up cleaning up sometimes at least 10 times a day. Also the screaming. Think of the worst horror movie scream then imagine it at least twice as loud and as long. I've had neighbours 3 doors down say they can hear him when he screams at night. Does anyone have any ideas how I can improve these behaviours, I should also mention that Cal is non-verbal. He understands a lot of what is asked of him. I figure he understand when he's asked to go to the toilet because he complains when he's asked. Thanks Helen Melbourne Australia

I understand what your saying because my son does that some times I don't understand it. He gets it on the sheets and stuff so I have to clean him up and the wash the sheets too. It gets verying tiring when it comes to stuff like that. Some times I just put him in the bath and wash him good then just dress him over again. I have to wash towels everyday if I dont' we have nothing to dry off with. It gets crazy.

My guess is he is constipated and is having Leaks coming through where things get quite compacted and then it results in dirrorhea. We had this and put my son on Senna - just 3 mls before and he goes normally most of the time when he gets home from school.

Hi Helen,

Welcome to the group. My is 8 and thank goodness the poop issue is gone but when he was younger he just didn't seem to know when he went and what to do with it if he did. I would find poop on his hands and face and have to search the house for the rest then Lysol every door knob in the house in case he touched them. I think I would try in small steps. First trying to get him to wear underwear for a specific amount of time, even starting a 5 minutes if this is really hard on him (we use kitchen timers for this kind of thing). Then give him a reward like let him play a game or a favorite treat. If you build slowly and let him get used to always wearing underwear then at least the cleanup will be contained. After that I would maybe try a stool softener (could he be constipated?) to help him go and if you know when he usually does the deed like after breakfast or lunch then try and get him into the bathroom at

that time and encourage him to sit on the toilet. I would tell him if he goes on the toilet he can have his absolute favorite thing to eat or toy to play with. When we do this kind of program we buy him a toy he really wants or withhold his favorite food and only give it after he does what we need him to do. It seems like a lot of work but probably will be less then cleaning up the mess all the time. You may need to work from just being in the bathroom and going to going in the toilet if he is really resistant. You may have tried something similar already but this is what works for us. The screaming we haven't had to deal with. Is there a specific thing that is making him scream or does the screaming get him what he wants? It would be horrible to have that kind of screaming all the time and I really feel for you. You certainly have your hands full. I hope you find the help you need here and if

you want to email me privately to ask questions or just to vent please do. Kellie

Have you taken him to a gastroenterologist to be checked out? He is showing symptoms of bowel problems possibly colitis or constipation.
